Well, again, I hope it's happy for someone. For myself...we'll see.

The drive to work was pretty decent, at the least.

I didn't have much in the way of dinner last night, though. And I slept poorly again.

And I didn't have anything substantive to bring for lunch today. Among my usual support items (crackers, pecans, a small bag of nilla wafers) I also brought a cup of microwavable rice. Not much to look forward to.

Maybe I can find someone else who needs lunch.

I do have some work to keep me busy today. That would be a good thing, except the work sucks. So it's more of a break even.

I'm beginning to think I'm the only one of the cool kids left around these parts. Sad, but not surprising. Once I hit my 20th anniversary in a few months, I'll probably dial back on my posts.

I had a nearly perfect drive to work. Only caught one light, and that just for a few seconds. Then, just as I'm off the interstate and approaching my final u-turn under the overpass, I run into some gutter slut driving about 10-15 mph. And he takes the u-turn at his nice, leisurely, snail's pace. What a tool.

Still, making it through that many lights unscathed is something to be celebrated. In a low-key sort of way.

Not sure what there is to do today here in the office. I'll most likely end up doing some personal development.

The one job I had on my plate was to fill in the data for a weld matrix. The PM is the only one with the account to fill out the actual form for the client, so I just had to put the necessary information into a spreadsheet for him.

Speaking of that PM....

We found out yesterday that his father passed away. Sad to hear. Apparently, the dude had been in hospice care for quite some time. So it wasn't entirely unexpected.

And then I also found out that one of my mother's friends passed away yesterday as well. He had been in poor health, then took a turn for the worse. The weird thing about that is he had just attended his own brother's funeral not even a week ago. Went out for a big steak dinner and everything afterwards.

Needless to say, the talk around the office was quite morbid yesterday.

[Aberzombie]

And yet...

We've got one employee in his late 70s, and he still has both his parents. Granted, they're not doing too well these days, but still.

And we've got another employee who's somewhere in her late 60s, maybe early 70s. She's still got at least one parent that I know of.

Finally, the boy got home from school yesterday not feeling well. He woke up this morning still feeling bad. This could put the kibosh on my wife's intended trip to Louisiana next week.

I walked with IT dudes and my buddy over to the shopping complex next door for lunch. We stopped in at this little Mexican place. Good food. I had chicken fajitas. Hopefully, I won’t regret it.

Narrator: He did, in fact, “regret it”.

To quote the old Knight in the very last Indiana Jones movie:

“He chose….poorly.”

It's Work from Home Friday. I'm taking another half day. This time it's for an 8 am dentist appointment (cleaning), followed by two afternoon appointments at the cardiologist's office. One appointment is for an echocardiogram, the other is the follow up to all my recent tests and procedures. Fun times.

The wife took the boy to the doctor yesterday. They confirmed he once again has the flu. It's the type A. They prescribed him Tamiflu and a cough medicine.

Hopefully, he won't have the same reaction to the Tamiflu that I typically have - raging insomnia. I learned that the hard way. Went into the test for me PE license with maybe 2 hours of sleep. Took an 8-hour test, then went home and still couldn't fall asleep until around 3 am.

In a way, it was a good thing. Since then, if I get the flu they prescribe me a predecessor to Tamiflu. It works well enough. The good part being if there's a bad flu season they can more easily run out of Tamiflu than my stuff.

So, anyway, since the boy is ill, that kind of puts the kibosh on my wife's plans to take the kids to Louisiana next week. They're out of school anyway, for one of the many breaks the teachers take.

Almost forgot....I forgot to set my alarm this morning, so didn't take my medicine at the usual time. I've had to delay my coffee intake, but it's about time I can have some.

Mmmm...coffee.

Well, according to the cardiologist, and all those tests, I not only have a heart, but it and my circulatory system are in overall great shape. Except for some varicose veins in my legs. For those I think I'll try some compression socks.

And now the wife is feeling ill. So we're assuming she's got the flu, same as the boy. Somehow, however, she had the flu shot. According to her, that means she doesn't have to go to the doctor to get some medicine. Not sure why she never arranged for the kids to get the shot.

I managed to pick up some rotisserie leg quarters at the store earlier today. There were four separate quarters in the package, so I had two for lunch and one for dinner. The last one will be lunch tomorrow.

My daughter is angry at the wife. Partly because wife and son are sick, thus foiling my daughter's hopes of going to Louisiana. The other partly being my wife bought her Valentine's Day cards to give out, but forgot to send them with her today (they were doing it early since they're out next week for a teacher vacation).

According to the weather app, it's going to be another warm day. Some sun, but possibly mostly clouds (building up to rain in a few days).

I don't have much planned for today, other than the usual. Since the wife isn't feeling well, I'll probably have to bring my daughter to her art class. That could prove challenging, if only from a logistics standpoint.

I have a thought on how to make it sensible and efficient, however. It would involve stopping at the scout shop. The boy needs new pants anyway, and even though he can't go with me I could still probably pick up a new pair. I think all I'd need to do is get the next size up.

Started watching my new South Korean zombie show last night. It was a slow build to the impending zombie doom over the first episode. It really blew up in the second episode. Sometimes literally.

This is the show with Jisoo from Blackpink - the primary reason I'm watching it.

I don't expect any big purchases at the comic book store today. Not like last week. We'll see though.

Anyway, time to go do a bit of mapping before starting the rest of my day in earnest.

I remembered that I needed an emissions test on my truck so I can renew the registration. I also wanted to take care of a recall on the rear camera. So now I’m sitting in the dealership. I was hoping to make an appointment, but apparently they don’t do that. So it’s only walk-ins.

And for some reason, my phone can’t connect to their WiFi.

Damn! I just noticed the TV was showing some feature on an old Apple computer (from the early 80s). A brief buying montage showed people using credit cards with the old carbon copy forms. I remember my dad had one of the form machines at his dry cleaners. He kept it for years, even after he went to electronic processing. Whenever something knocked out power, he’d pull it out and use it.

Must be some kind of retro program, because they were also just showing clips from the early days of MTV. You know, back when it was actually awesome.

Anyway, got my emissions test done. And the recall for the rear camera. All in all, it only cost me about $18 and about 2 hours.

Then for the hell of it, I watched Robocop last night. Apparently it was the director's cut, but I honestly couldn't tell you what the differences might have been from the original theatrical version. Still a fun movie. With fantastic special effects for the time.

The boy seems to be doing better. The Tamiflu is really helping, and without the side effects I would get.

The wife is still feeling crappy. She's probably got the flu from the boy, but didn't bother going to get tested. She got the flu shot, so that is supposed to help.
