I have never played a multi-class spell caster before. If I took 2 levels of Wizard and 10 levels of Magus would I be able to take spells of the apporiate level from wizard spell list?

When multi-classing a two spellcasting classes the spells known (spellbook) and spells prepared are kept separate (unless your GM has a house-rule that would affect this).

So in your case, for spell prep you would prepare a 2nd-level wizard and a 10th-level magus. Unless you have an ability that allows it, you can not use your magus spell slots for wizard spells or vis-versa.

However, for normal scribing cost, you could easily copy the common spells into both books, so they would available to learn in the appropriate spell slot.

Also, IIRC, there is a Magus arcana available that lets you use spells from your other class's slots for Magus spellstrike and spell combat.

Broad Study (Ex): The magus selects another one of his spellcasting classes. The magus can use his spellstrike and spell combat abilities while casting or using spells from the spell list of that class. This does not allow him to cast arcane spells from that class's spell list without suffering the normal chances of arcane spell failure, unless the spell lacks somatic components. The magus must be at least 6th level and must possess levels in at least one other spellcasting class before selecting this arcana.
