Redeemer Paladin rules and official clarification

Rules Questions

So, I have a lot of questions that need official errata. My DM is a stickler on rules and I also like making my characters without using too many house rules. So here are my questions:
1) Has the race restriction ever been lifted? Could I have a goblin, orc, kobold, etc. Redeemer Paladin?

2) Merciful Smite: the way it reads, I can do lethal or non lethal. It says "she can have...". Is that true?

3) Pact of Peace: this is the major question that needs to be answered. If I was to read this literally it gets confusing. It says as if using lesser geas (but technically isn't it doesn't give uses, no DC, it doesn't say that it's cast, but it gives a caster level but is a spell like ability). To me it almost reads that it auto succeeds because it requires the opponent to surrender regardless of how many hitdice and requires them to agree to the terms listed with no save (otherwise they still can surrender and just say no... or lie). To me it seems it has a caster level so that big spells can remove the effect. Are there any links or rules to truely clarify this ability? It's more of a role-playing ability (that relies on the whim of the DM) then combat, which in itself is tough to swallow since you are giving up immunity to all charms for it. How does this truly work?

1. No, though looking it over, I can find no reason for it to be racially restricted.

2. That is correct, you can do lethal or non-lethal at your discretion.

3. The DC for class abilities is 10+1/2level+ability modifier (certainly Charisma in this case).

1. Currently playing a tiefling redeemer and having a ball. You could have a human one if you wanted. It's only said that the racial archetypes are typically of their associated race. Unless it's an archetype that builds off of actual racial abilities, like the recent Ouat dwarf archetype, restricting them by race can be more arbitrary than flavor driven. In the case of the Redeemer, the only real requirement beyond being a paladin is to be empathetic. :)

2. Confirming Zhayne's answer, it's the paladin's choice.

3. Good question. I believe the intent is for it to be quite powerful for what you give up, but I don't recall seeing any further word on that matter.

1)No, and I doubt it will be. It came out in the Advanced RACE Guide afterall, as a specific flavor option for half-orcs. It would be up to your GM to allow variation (which you say he won't).

2)Correct, it is can, so you do not have to do non-lethal damage. However, it does say all damage, so once you choose which type of damage, you are doing with the smite, it continues until your smite ends.

3)DC would default to 10+1/2 HD when you gain spell-like ability+CHA mod(Paladin casting stat) It replaces an aura, and has no listed limited uses, so I'd say it can be used as often as you meet the qualifying conditions (i.e. accepting an individual target's surrender and forcing conditions on them).

What about hit dice restrictions? Because if it does follow lesser geas it caps at 7 hd. Which becomes less useful as you level.

It works as lesser geas in all other aspects and restrictions

So, to sum it up bluntly... the ability has little to no use. You get the ability at level 8, and most opponents you come across will be 5th to 10th level or hit dice. At about 11th level, unless you use it on a peon, it fails to work 99% of the time. At about 12th level you will never use the ability again.

Just to make sure, there is no errata on this?

You picked a 3.5 Goblin as your avatar. Nice. xD

I'm pretty sure the RAI is for it to scale, but I've not seen any official word on the Redeemer's abilities anywhere. For our group, GM arbitration is coming down in favor of keeping it usable throughout the campaign, but it doesn't sound like that's an option for your group. :(

It's an option... DM and I just like it more when we don't have to have 20 million house rules
