Optimize Half-Orc Unarmed Warrior

Advice

Grand Lodge

So I'm going to be joining a weekly Pathfinder Society game in a couple of days, and I have a concept that I would like help making reasonably competent. I want to create a Half-Orc unarmed warrior, probably a Barbarian/Monk combination, that has no problem getting in close to enemies, grappling effectively and is able to pin them and perform a coup-de-gras. There may be a certain flavor to this maneuver that any Batman fans can predict. *cough*

I'm thinking that the Urban Barbarian and Brutal Pugilist archetypes could be handy, but if I do multiclass into Monk, I'm not sure if they're necessary, although the Controlled Rage from Urban Barbarian definitely fits this character's flavor.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Your first problem is alignment requirements. Barbarian requires non-lawful while monk requires lawful. Technically you don't lose any class abilities from monk if you become non-lawful, but you can't progress in the monk class anymore. If you start as barbarian and become lawful to take levels in monk you lose the ability to rage and all things that depend on rage (pretty much all class abilities).

Martial Artist archetype helps get around the alignment issues, as does the trait Adopted[Enlightened Warrior] if you are OK with being NG or N.

Also, to perform a coup-de-grace requires a defender to be helpless.

Pinned does not cause the helpless condition, so you cannot coup-de-grace them.

Quote:
Pinned: A pinned creature is tightly bound and can take few actions. A pinned creature cannot move and is denied its Dexterity bonus.. A pinned character also takes an additional –4 penalty to his Armor Class. A pinned creature is limited in the actions that it can take. A pinned creature can always attempt to free itself, usually through a combat maneuver check or Escape Artist check. A pinned creature can take verbal and mental actions, but cannot cast any spells that require a somatic or material component. A pinned character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level) or lose the spell. Pinned is a more severe version of grappled, and their effects do not stack.

You could use the bloodrager instead of barbarian.

The best grappler in the game is a Tetori Monk.
Lore Warden Fighter, Unamred Fighter, and Brutal Pugilist Barbarian follow after the Tetori in various ranks.

Based on your concept, I would say go with Tetori to level 8 or so, and then change alignment and multiclass to Brutal Pugilist.
This roughly mirrors Bane's story from the comics as he was VERY disciplined while he was in the prison.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I'll look into some optimized guides for the Tetori Monk and plot out a basic progression from there!
