Thassalonian Sins- defeating villains

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

My son and I just played through Thassalonian Sins and were confused by what counts as a "defeat" in this adventure. Do the villains get put under the adventure card after their first defeat or do they run to the an open location deck like standard adventures? Or are they defeated immediately the first time? Seems a bit overly tedious to chase them all down to one location and have nothing but villains left. It takes away all the mystery out of it when 2 players are playing at 4 locations with 3 villains. It feels like a grind after the first couple of locations are closed.

For each villain, to remove them you have to prevent them from escaping.

So each time you encounter a villain, do what you normally do. Only, if they have nowhere to escape to, instead of winning you place them by the scenario card. Once all three are there, then you win.
