The Harrow Deck and Healing.

Are there any Archetypes that use the Harrow Deck for healing? Is... or can the Harrow deck even be used for Healing?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The Cartomancer Witch in the Harrow Handbook can do a neat trick with Cure spells:

-Witch gets the Cure X Wounds spells on their list.
-Cartomancer can deliver touch spells with their spell deck feature.

It's not optimal, but tossing a card at a downed ally to get them back up could be pretty cool and useful in combat.

Holy crap you're right, I love you Tomos! I glossed over the fact that Deliver Touch Spells doesn't do card damage. Ever since I heard about the Harrowdeck I've been jonesing for a way to make a Final Fantasy XI Corsair work. I see it now, a level 1 dip into Spellslinger Wizard and then rest into Cartomancer Witch. Maybe grab Hedge Witch for spontaneous heals. Definitely going to be a Magic Support Pirate from Shackles in my next game.

Hah! That is awesome.

Don't forget that you don't have to use your Spell Deck as the weapon if you don't want to. Regular Harrow Decks can be used to deliver touch spells, but they don't have the Returning property.

Another thread on Cartomancers pointed out that Spell Decks are magic weapons in their own right and can be enchanted. So, you could have a +2 Bane Harrow Deck!

I'm tempted to try and make a character like Gambit out of this class, but I don't think I'd be able to get the accent right.

Huzzah, my GM is the best! She's letting me use a modified version of Weaponwand to permanently store cure wands into my deck in exchange for a feat or a hex. I'll likely go Spellslinger 1/Cartomancer X/Evangelist of Besmara to give my BAB a slight bump. Maybe Samsaren for the race to cherry pick some other touch spells with Mystic Past Life. Now it's just a question of which Patron to choose and I'll have my Corsair.

That would be cool, thanks Tomos!

That is a good idea! I agree that this ability is worth a feat or a hex.

It's true that you could just prepare a CLW and use Deliver Touch Spells, but this makes it possible to do it over and over again.
It might be a little awkward for out of combat healing... "Hold still, I have to flick some cards at your face for a minute"

Choosing a Patron seems kind of annoying. Very few of them offer you something really valuable (a spell that's not on your list already).
Trickery is probably best because it grants you Mirror Image.

@Ken: You're welcome!
