Casey's Mighty Blade (idea for a magical weapon)

Homebrew and House Rules

Thinking of the weapon from Mother/Earthbound that had a high chance to whiff, but was very powerful when it struck, I thought of this:

Spoiler:

Casey's Mighty Blade
Minor Artifact Long Sword

This long sword looks like a well used but completely clean weapon. It looks as though it was highly decorated at one time, but the majority of the gilt and filigree has been worn away.

When used in combat, Casey's Mighty Blade behaves as a regular Long Sword, except it imposes a -10 to all attack or maneuver rolls made using it. However, any successful hit is treated as a confirmed critical hit.

Would it be worth it? Could you imagine any of your players using this item?

The Exchange

At 20th level it is slightly less of a penalty than power track. Yes it is worth using. I don't like it because It encourage focusing on to hit way to much. Someone will love it for that though.

True strike builds
Buff based builds

The Exchange

I meant to say, slightly more of a penalty to hit than power attack.

I think you should give it a % chance to hit after the regular d20 roll (I'm thinking 40% or so).
This gives a reason for it be used by even the party wizard, for example (unless he couldn't hit in the first place).

More accurate to the earthbound weapon and the theory of the weapon would be an 18-20 crit rate that only hits on crit threats, but has a bonus to confirm (And if you got it you'd want to invest in improved critical).

Also, I don't think there's anything wrong with making it a club or a kanabo instead of a longsword.

Keep in mind, it's actually -15 to hit, because by 20 you'd otherwise have a +5 weapon.

Also, True Strike? So either every other round, or once per round if they burn a quickened slot, they could do a single crit? That doesn't sound all that abusive.

@Velix - That's an interesting idea, but I'm trying to keep it simple.

@Golux- I think a longsword is more iconic for a D&D interpretation. Also, I just don't like clubs. :P

I think it isent really worth it. A x2 crit is not that great in Exchange for -10.
I can imagine no one that would use the sword unless other magic stuff came on top. There May be builds that reply on getting a crit but they can have Lots of attacks and a good chance to have several crits.

That's sort of what I was thinking. Do you think a x3 would be tempting enough? Perhaps a x4?
