5 foot movement and attack action

Rules Questions

Hello, I'm unsure if it's something our DM has been taking from 3.5 or from his other group but I've been trying to find it in the corebook since my friend noticed this in PFS play a few days back.

When you are fighting in close range (being melee or such) can you take a 5 foot step away from the enemy or can you just 5 foot around them.

5 feet step in every direction. Obviously you can't enter into the enemy square, normally. They are often used for flanking while full-attacking.

True, unless you can phase into their space but good to know :)

You can even 5 foot up if you have a climb or fly speed, and 5 foot down if you have a burrow speed.

Or if you were already 5+ feet up.
