Feats & Part-time prerequisites?

The CRB says that your character must have the prerequisites in order to select or use a feat.

But what happens if you only meet the prerequisites part of the time? Specifically, if we consider the Barbarian Class it is quite possible, perhaps even common, that you would meet specific prerequisites when in a Rage or Controlled Rage, but fail to meet the prerequisites when you're not using that particular class feature.

In such a scenario is it simply a matter of telling your GM: "okay, I'm levelling up to 5th. I want to go into a rage and select _______ as my 5th level feat."?

You can only use the feat while meeting the prerequisites, but otherwise it works.

For instance, a druid can select weapon focus(claws) but he only benefits from it when he has claws. Now, while that is obvious you start applying the same principle in which the reqirement and the affect aren't the same thing and you get things like you can take power attack as a feat but since you strength score is too low (<13) you can only use it while raging when you strength goes up to 16.

*Note, this is just a contrived exmaple, I don't think it's likely people are making barbarians with 12 strength who don't qualify for power attack, but it is possible and illustrates the point.

It illustrates the point perfectly. And you point about the Druid is so close to the example I had in mind it's funny.

I was thinking about a Barbarian with Animal Fury and Lesser Beast Totem; would they qualify for Multiattack (assuming of course your GM permits you to take Monster Feats).

Or a Barbarian that gains Two-Weapon Fighting through the Greater Brawler rage power; can they select Double Slice as a feat? (assuming they have a 15 DEX of course).

Generally yes. You cannot use the feat without meeting the at the time of use, but you can take the feat. This should only be done when it is possible for the character to use the feat at least some time through at least some means (totem when raging, wildshape, mutagen, etc).

For example, if you are a druid with wildshape, you can take multiattack because sometimes you're wildshaped into a creature that can use multiattack but he obviously can't use it when he's in human form hitting something with a club. However, a level one oracle cannot take power attack at level one because he doesn't have the +1 base attack bonus and can't get it through any means at level 1.
