Picking traits for a new character..

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

I'm making a character for a society event and it says I must pick two traits. Does that mean if I'm a half-orc (excluding all other options outside of racial traits), I could pick "+2 to One Ability Score" and "Darkvision" and then I wouldn't have the rest of the traits? So I would no longer have traits such as "Orc Blood" or "Weapon Familiarity"?

Different traits. Don't worry, this confuses basically everyone the first time.

You have your racial traits, which is what you get for being a half-orc or whatever. Then you have traits, which are small bonuses that are presumably worth half a feat and are tied to character background a lot more than many other mechanics. Just to make matters worse, there is a subcategory referred to as race traits.

"race traits".. That's exactly why I was confused. Thanks.

"Race traits," "racial abilities," "racial features," "racial qualities," "racial properties" - for all the "official terms" for this-that-and-the-other this game has developed (some of which I vehemently wish would go away or at least cede their ubiquity), this, strangely, is one thing that never got a clear label, and could actually use one.

@claudekennilol: Since that confused you, here's a tip for some similar things to watch out for: "Faith traits" (a blanket range of traits pertaining to all religion/spirituality/what-dreams-may-come) are not the same as what are sometimes referred to as "Religion traits" (a much more restrictive field of traits derived from your character's specific patron deity) - point is, you can have both.
There's also "Regional traits" (similarly restrictive, based on what region of the campaign world your character hails from or affiliates most closely with) versus "Faction traits" (Pathfinder Society's replacement for "Campaign traits" that depend on your chosen faction affiliation, and in most cases are associated with regions of the world - the "major powers" of Golarion's Inner Sea, referred to as "Osirion/Taldor" etc in a similar manner to how they talked about "Washington/Moscow" during the Cold War to refer to the central nervous systems of agendae that were actually far more than just cities) to watch out for; you could conceivably have a character with an Andoran Regional trait and a Cheliax Faction trait (NOT NORMAL, but you'd certainly have soup-stock for an interesting backstory there!).
