Recently we came across an arch type for a sorcerer in a new paizo book we bought. This arch type is a whole lot more useful for our sorcerer than what he has now. The gm was reluctant about it but the sorcerer suggested using his hero points to change arch type.
Is this a legitimate idea and would you approve of this?

The usual approach for this is the retraining rules in Ultimate Campaign. I suppose one could invent a system for spending a hero point to bypass the cost in time and gold for one or more weeks of retraining. I don't have a lot of experience using hero points, though.
