Antilife shell calls out elementals as a separate creature type which they were in 3.5 D&D, but not in PFRPG. They are now a subtype of outsiders.
Speaking of which, outsiders are alive, so I'm not sure why they aren't hedged out by the spell.

Because when the spell was researched by Wizard, he didn't have a lot of ranks in Knowledge Planes and didn't know how to formulate a block for Outsiders (which is why Elementals also are not hedged.)
