Does "using another die" change the roll type?

When a character like Sanjan uses his Dex for a Strength/Combat check, does it stays a Strength/Combat check, or does it become a Dex check? If it becomes a Dex check, it means you can't use the Strength spell?

The same thing applies when Lini discards a card to roll a d10.

I tried finding the answer to the question, but I don't know how to search for this, sorry if it's been asked before.

For Sajan it becomes a Dexterity check. That is due to an update in the FAQ.

For Lini, it stays the same skill. She is literally changing the size of the die, not the skill the die is associated with. See this post for an explanation.
