Do Rods and Wands stack?

Rules Questions

I was looking at a wizard build who would dual wield a wand of magic missile and a metamagic rod of toppling. I couldn't find rules for how to negotiate this sort of combination. Should these toppling magic missiles simply cost more magic missile charges? Or are these too not supposed to stack?

Nothing you do changes the effects of the wand. It's not a wand of toppling, and you aren't actually casting a spell, so the rod doesn't do you any good.

You can create a wand of toppling magic missile, but you can't use a rod with a wand.

Magic Items and Metamagic Spells: With the right item creation feat, you can store a metamagic version of a spell in a scroll, potion, or wand. Level limits for potions and wands apply to the spell's higher spell level (after the application of the metamagic feat). A character doesn't need the metamagic feat to activate an item storing a metamagic version of a spell.

Yes, but you have to balance them VERY carefully.

Can you explain ? Everyone can do that, it's from the CRB, and as it can be useful for some spells... I'm not really convinced. He will make a lvl 2 wand, without his caster level, and without his ability modifier to DC. So it's 4500 for a DC 11 trip attack after 1d4+1 damages.

Lvl 1 wand: 750 Gp
Lvl 2 wand: 4500 Gp

Without some archetypes, it's pretty weak for the cost.

Edit: remember that you're not the caster when you use a wand.

Spells in wands can not be modified. You may be able to make a magic missile wand that is toppling, but if if is a generic wand then you are stuck with it.

I think it is a joke about Mikado.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's a joke because you could balance a stick on another stick, but it'd be hard because round things tend to roll, I think.

Huuuu... I just woken up when I read the thread. Now it seems more obvious.

(And yeah, I don't know why, this morning, the first thing I would do was checking the rules forum. Do I become obsessed ?)
