Need Help Deciding On Character

Advice

So me and a group of friends are playing a one-shot on Saturday and I'm the last person building a character, so I'm having a tough time deciding what to build.

It will start at level 7, the group so far is a rogue/paladin, a fighter, a combat 1st cleric, and two wizards. I'm not really sure of the builds of the wizards, but I'm pretty sure one will be universalist. One of the wizards will have a bard follower as well. The first three players are all front line and the wizards will of course be hanging back.

What do you think would make a good compliment? Only Core, APG, Race Guide, UM, and UC are allowed. Summoner is also banned. I really don't have any great feelings about what to play, hence the dilemma.

Sounds like you could use a good archer ranger

well plenty of firepower there so i would say utility character but as it is a 1 shot maybe not so useful (particularly with the bard stepping on the toes).

an offensive spell cleric or one of the new apg classes (gunslinger!) may be fun...... try something odd you have always wanted to try..... paldin/necromancer or some mumbo jumbo like that......

Good time to try out a theory crafted build and test for feasibility....... even if the build is a bust you aren't stuck with it for long and starting at 7th will help get into the meat of it.....

An Archer Ranger could fill something they're missing, as Darigaaz says. You could also pick a Caster Druid/Witch/Oracle to give some diversity to the "sit at the back casting" crowd.

I run an archery based Inquisitor in another game, and do like archery. Since there is little healing to be had in this group, I may try to do a zen archer/cleric. Maybe ZA4/C3 or something along those lines.

I also thought about building something completely crazy and doing a Pathfinder Chronicler or something like that.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Sounds like a good spot for an Archer Bard, too. Buffs from the Bard stacking with buffs from the Cleric and the Archer Bard's pretty solid DPS from ranged would be a good ol' time.

This is what I'd do. They need archery + utility, and there are enough melee characters to really benefit from all the buffs you give out. 7th is also the level where Bards start to win at life, with Good Hope + Bardic Performance as a first round action being a wonderful thing.

Inquisitor is also solid at utility, and likely better personal damage, but lacks the ridiculous group buffing.

EDIT:

Re-reading the OP, the Bard cohort makes this less essential, though still potentially cool if you go with a different archetype that stacks like Archivist or Court Bard.

Best character to play would be the one you want to play, not the one that is missing or would complete a party.

Parties lacking in something will work together to make up whatever is missing.
