Hi there everyone.
I have a quick question the Smiting judgement says "The inquisitor’s weapons count as magic for the purposes of bypassing damage reduction."
Does this extend to the ammo used by a ranged weapon?
Myself and our GM are looking for something that rules either way. The rules say a ranged weapon must have an enhancement of +1 or higher for the ammo to overcome DR.
Is a simple answer to just masterwork the ranged weapon so that it has a +1 enhancement and can pass the DR negating goodness on?

Ammunition fired from a projectile weapon with an enhancement bonus of +1 or higher is treated as a magic weapon for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
As long as the weapon is magic, the arrows/bolts/bullets count as magic for over coming damage reduction, no need for anything special unless you need silver, cold iron or adamantite, and don't have sufficient pluses.
The Masterwork enhancement does NOT bypass damage reduction, it only gives a +1 to hit and does not stack with any magical enhancements. Also, magic ammunition and magic ranged weapons bonuses do NOT stack either, only the highest is used.

Masterwork won't since DR/Magic requires "...at least a +1 magical enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls..." and masterwork weapons are non-magical with a +1 enhancement bonus to attack only. Getting a masterwork weapon is still a great idea, though, that's a really cheap way to get a better attack bonus and every little bit helps.
Smiting will work since "The inquisitor's weapons count as magic for the purposes of bypassing damage reduction." Period, full stop. So the weapon meets the requirements to overcome DR and "Ammunition fired from a projectile weapon with an enhancement bonus of +1 or higher is treated as a magic weapon for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction." So, since the weapon can overcome DR, the ammo can as well.
The key to DR/Magic is the "treated as a magic weapon" part not the "+1" part. If Smiting didn't work because it didn't make the weapon +1, it wouldn't work regardless of whether the weapon was melee or ranged and would be a completely meaningless skill until the alignment thing kicked in.

As craven points out counting as a magic weapon for DR, is not a +1 enhancement.
Hence why I asked the question. That the weapon counts as doesn't meet the requirements for magic extending to the ammo, Akerlof. Unless there is an FAQ somewhere.
Cravenheart. Thanks for reading what I posted, we're thinking the same but there is always the possibility that there is a post in the forums from the design team or an FAQ that says otherwise.
