Can a character ready an action to sunder a reach weapon?

If a character is being attack with a reach weapon, can said character ready an action to sunder the reach weapon when he is attacked with it?

There's a feat for that, Strike Back.

Weather that feat is *really* necessary or not is debated.

By RAW and technically RAI, the feat indicates that the devs either thinks it isn't allowed without the feat or maybe that the devs don't agree amongst themselves.

I would houserule in my own game, allowing anyone to ready a sunder against a reach weapon. I might require the feat to allow readying an attack on the creature instead of the weapon, but I'm not sure. And if I did require the feat then I would lower the requirements and maybe give the feat a little something extra.

It would be reasonable to houserule that the feat Striek Back is unnecessary to Strike at a creature attacking you, but as the rules currently stand you cannot attack a creature in a square you do not threaten with a melee weapon (i.e. you cannot reach the sqaure). the fact that they have to "reach" through an area you can attack is irrelevant in game terms. This allows you to do things like pick up items in a square your opponent threatens without provoking an AoO(provided they don't also threaten your square) and other things as well.

It works both ways.
