So I dipping into Wizard at this point after 5 level of Gunslinger.

I just can't decide which kind of Familiar to choose from. Anyway suggestions?

She is going to be dipping into an arcane school of Conjuration School and going to eventually use my familiar to eventually to deliver my abundant ammunition spell, along with other spells in the future.

Any ideas?


There is no choice in familiar. Only +4 iniatiive.

Boon companion into Improved familiar might help you. You could also have multiple guns and have your familiar as your Powder monkey.

I think your only option is a Monkey.....yup....for flavor.

There are a few things that no one considers that can really change up how you think of animal companions. The raven actually becomes exceedingly useful if you know what you're doing, not for the bonus, but for the creature itself.

First off it can speak, so basically you can get a cohort to scout for you, deliver messages, stuff like that. Secondly, it can fly which, when coupled with the fact that it can deliver a touch attack, can lead to some great times (bird swoops in, feebleminds, you dominate.) plus who is going to waste their aoo on a bird if they don't know it's yours? A lot of people treat their familiar as a burden and a bonus feat, but you can do a lot with it!

I'm a big fan of talking familiars. Since they inherit all your skill ranks, they can make Knowledge checks as well, giving you a second opinion. And for a lot of skills they can Aid Another you - which is also a traditional purpose of familiars.

Also, familiars tend to have good Stealth; they generally have positive Dex, +8 or so size bonus and Stealth as a class skill. They may also look like harmless animals. So a familiar that can actually report back to you what it's seen may be a better scout than the rogue.


Mechanics wise... anything which gives +4 Initiative.
Flavour wise... Monkey, with a fez and waistcoat. Cigar optional.


Pick a bird. It can fly over your intended target, drop a vial of oil or an alchemical weapon, then if your foe is coated in oil you can light them on fire with a shot.
