whips, catch off guard and imporvised weapons,

Rules Questions

So let's say I'm playing a nasty, nasty Rogue with WP: whip.
1) is the pommel of the whip an improvised weapon? if so can it be effective against folk with Nat AC or a decent Armor bonus (unlike the weapon "whip"?
2) If I have the feat "Catch off guard" can I disarm a dude with my whip then smack him in the face with the pommel (an improvised weapon) and deny him his dex bonus, giving me my SA dice?
3) Should I duck under the table after I do this to avoid the GM/Players hucking dice at my head for this blatent abuse?
thanks!

Scarab Sages

Just take improved unarmed strike and punch him instead. Same feat investment, same damage, and no improvised weapon Shenanigans. Besides, if you are relying on attacking unarmed people with improvised weapons in order to get off a Sneak Attack, don't be supprised if yo start fighting people with Natural Weapons, Cestii, Spiked Gauntlets, Patas, Scizores, or Improved Unarmed Strike.

You could just have a Crowbar in one hand, and a whip in the other.

Whether something works as an improvised weapon--and, if so, how well it works--is solely in the purview of the GM. A GM need not assign damage dice to a feather if she deems it unsuitable for that use. A GM might assign additional constraints on such weapons as well--for example, attacking someone with a clay jar will likely cause the jar to break.

The handle of a bullwhip is usually a heavily-braided leather or wooden rod less than a foot long. That doesn't even qualify for club damage. I'd probably stat it as brass knuckles (1d3 for Medium). Another GM might do 1d4, or they might not allow it at all, or they might give it the same damage restrictions as the whip itself.

If the GM does allow you to use it as an improvised weapon, and if the weapon is allowed to cause damage at all, then Catch Off Guard comes into play and you get your sneak attack dice.

Much better tactic.

Regardless, Improvised weapons become unfeasible very quickly, as they can not be enchanted. No enhancement bonus severely hurts accuracy, and the ability to penetrate DR.

Well, far as I know, Special Material improvised weapons, still count as the Special Material they are made of.

So, your Mithral Waffle Iron would still count as silver.

Still have to deal with other kinds of DR.

Arcane Strike helps.

yeah, it's one of my Unplayable dream builds to have a rogue/empty hand monk with Arcane strike who sends Demons to their doom with temporarily enchanted chamberpots...

Grand Lodge

Well, with EWP: Whip, Weapon Focus: Whip and Whip Mastery, you can use it as intended and still do damage. Won't work with Catch Off Guard, that that is what the whisky bottle is for. ;)

Make it a mithral whiskey bottle and you're set.
