Hi everyone!
I am really new here, so I am really sorry in advance, if this is trivial, or it was discussed earlier. I started searching in the forums, but I could not find the answer for myself.
So I am running a game and I want to make a story about dragons. The area has a really big forest and a big mountain.
The story is basically, that there is a dragon, who is known. The party is approached by a men, hiring them to hunt this dragon down, with his help.
But in the end, it turns out, that this men was another dragon (dragon2) the whole time, who wanted the hoard and territory of the first dragon (dragon1). (The players may figure out this earlier.)
Dragon1 is definitly superior to dragon2, thats why he "asked" for the players help.
What do you think, what kind of dragons would be good for these tasks? I wanted only red dragons, but would a red dragon diguese himself as a man for this sneaky plan?
Which type of dragon would you use for the roles? (They can be different types.)
And another question:
Which type of dragon would become a dracolich? I know that all cen be a dracolich, but for example the green dragon has a strong connection with nature, which in my opinion is related to life, therefore, a green dragon would loose much more, then any other (But I may be wrong).
Thank you very much!

Well, obviously for "Dragon 2" you'll want one of them that's a shape-changer (and not a LG shape-changer either). Have a look around for the Change Shape ability. If red dragons still have that capacity, it's a perfect fit for Dragon 2.
Dragon 1 can be just about any type, as long as you make sure its CR is about 2 higher than the other one. Players may balk at attacking a metallic dragon, so for character reasons it's probably best to use a blue, green, or one of the elemental dragons from Bestiary 2 (a magma dragon is a really good choice, since the red dragon knows its breath weapon wouldn't affect such a monster).
As far as the dracolich (or the legally-distinct-but-similar "ravener", which is PF's take on such creatures), I believe virtually any evil dragon can undergo the transformation. Note that technically a green dragon doesn't lose any of its nature-controlling powers if it is transformed in that way (although any dragon with druid levels probably would.)

Blue dragons are known for being superbly cunning and conniving. They also aren't terribly powerful (outside of being a magnificent True Dragon). A red is certainly more impressive. Might be a good fit for Dragon 2.
Depending on the level you're playing at he could simply use spells to disguise himself, or magic items. Keep in mind they get awesome project image abilities (mirage) to cast spells AND breathe through.

My Recommendation is having Dragon 2 being a Gorynych from bestiary 3. He has all the powers and greed to go to the PCs to take out a threat. Then have Dragon 1 be a Mature Adult Red Dragon.
Reasons:
Red Dragons are the most powerful and dangerous of the Chromatics. He will have a great horde.
The Gorynych knows he can't take the dragon by himself. He is strong but not strong enough. However with a few dumb adventures he can kill the dragon then take them out when they are tired.
I would recommend having the Gorynych use limited wish to cast a misdirection spell with a human target. at these level true seeing could unravel your plot.

Hi all!
Thank you very much for your help!
I was worried, that a red dragon would be insulted by the idea to impose as a human.
The ravener is a great concept, the problem is, that in my campaign, the dracolich fits better (some nasty manipulation by a third party throught the phylactery ... :D )
The alignment change is really nice idea, I am considering it... It would a real shock for them!
The Gorynych would a nearly perfect hit! Sadly, they will be only 8th or 9th, so it would be over the top :) But it'a a great monster, I think I wil include in it for highyer level party :)
Thank you very much!
