Agreed, but unless you're an Elven Druid, you're SOL at the moment.
I saw some fun-looking stuff along these lines in 3rd-party 3.0/3.5 (because of course), and there's this, but it's still Druids/Rangers (Cavaliers questing on shrubberies?/Samurai astride "Banzai Trees"? 8P) only.

Some sort of tiny, unintelligent myconid sporling or an ambulatory patch of moss akin to a tiny-sized ooze would be fun. Hell, I'd take a potted plant with animal intelligence if I could. Maybe it would be easy enough to re-skin an existing familiar into the role.
How about that 3.X 3rd party material you mentioned. Any clue where you found it?

LAME.

First of all, there's this - it's a rich resource all around, but the main thing you want from it at the moment is the Erlmantle on page 101.
The other one I had in mind (remember: saying "I found something neat in a 3rd-party 3rd Edition supplement" is a lot like saying "look at this cool book I found while I was rummaging around in the Library of Alexandria" - the concept of a plant familiar is a plum easily seen and reached for by many, and there's no telling what else there may be) was Sword and Sorcery Studios' Advanced Player's Guide, which includes the Plantmaster high-level prestige class, which in turn introduces many "plant companions" that are more like arcane Familiars than druidic companions - I recall a rose bush, a pine tree, and algae, among others; it could tolerate some reconsideration as written, especially for your purposes (aside from the blessing they bestow, they're mostly mundane plants with all the needs and limitations that would imply).
