Howdy,
So I might get to play in a game that allows more 3pp stuff I've never gotten to use. (the two i've always had interest in are artificer and machinesmith. I've heard a lot about how complicated artificer is)
So I wanted to know peopels thoughts on machinesmith!

Machinesmith on Paizo shop page has reviews by Endzeitgeist, me, TPK Games and Dalgar The Great.

thanks!
hum this is more related to artifcer but might as well drop it here for now. since a machinesmith could also end up in similar situation.
when you make a magic item (say wand, or magic item) out of a spell that has materials, and the item used changes the effect. Do you just choose the material when you make the item?
i.e. a spell like this http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/p/pellet-blast

It's a bit on the weak side and there are a number of Paizo classes that are much stronger than it. The automaton is fairly weak due to the lack of feats.
That said, it's a pretty good take on the concept. My post was just to say that it probably won't cause balance issues, not to discourage you.

If you decide to look elsewhere for such a class - Cheapy has worked hard to put together a huge list of all the various artificer/machinist classes out there.
He may provide a link if asked nicely! :D
also.. shameless plug for MY Tinker alternate class (which is on said list)
