I've been reading the material about the Mana Wastes and Alkenstar. Having trouble with the actual geography.
The map and text generally have Martel West of Alkenstar on the river. The text generally refers to the City of Alkenstar being at the top of the waterfall of the Ustradi River. Most of the text refer to Martel being at the bottom of the same falls.
Now the problem. The river flows North East, if Martel is West of Alkenstar how can it be at the bottom of the falls?

The only material I have is the Inner Sea World Guide and Wardens of the Reborn Forge, both of which note that Martel is definitely west of Alkenstar.
I see entries in Pathfinder wikis online that make references as you note, but the footnotes on those entries all point to the 2008 Campaign Setting guide. If I had to make a guess, I'd say that any references to Martel being at the base of the falls of Alkenstar come from there, and that they became outdated (and revised) with the publication of the Inner Sea World Guide.

As a followup, I see one of the Pathfinder Wikia entries notes that Martel is connected to Alkenstar via giant towers and skybridges. In Wardens, the PCs have to take an airship to reach Martel (sort of), indicating the two settlements are not close at all, which fits with the current map of the region, which has them a good 20-25 miles apart.

No worries. I don't have the original Campaign Guide, but remember hearing that there were some retcons made with ISWG, and in particular with Alkenstar. The only one I recall reading about was something to do with the timeline regarding Alkenstar, but it sounds like this geography thing is one, too.
