If we were to start a political party what one hundred policy ideas do you think it should support?
1. Put four hundred billion dollars in a bank account so that:
(a) four hundred billion will be available to those who wish to borrow at two percent interest.
(b) the annual interest (lets say 2% or eight billon dollars) will fund free medical services thus raising the economic efficiency of the working class.
So long as the money is borrowed at no more than 2% interest first...
8 b-for-billion dollars wouldn't even shift the needle.
Total US spending on health care is about one and one-half t-for-trillion dollars per year. Total Medicare spending is about 600 b-for-billion per year.
$8 billion might buy free coffee for all the doctors receiving Medicare payments.
(Similarly, 400 billion in low-cost loans wouldn't do anything; banks are already begging for people to borrow money from them, but can't find people who can be trusted to pay them back. The costs of running the program would almost certainly be more than 2% per year, so your "interest" would evaporate.)
