White-Haired Witch Arcane Trikster

Advice

Hi to all, this is my first post here!

Sorry for my bad English but i'm Italian!

I was thinking about a strange build... an Arcane Trickster 3LV Rogue and 3LV... WITCH!

Why witch and not Wizard??
I choose Witch because i can take the White-Haired Archetype and get an addictional attack (ranged and with CM) that use INT!

With hair i can constrict.. and eventually pin or trip my enemies, so i can make a lot of Sneak Attacks to them while flat footed, with my normal weapon ( a knife... because i choose Kinfe Master rogue archetype).

I can take the mage Hand cantrip with a trait, or by Rogue Talent "minor magic" so i can become Arcane Trikster at lv7

This build is extremely versatile, tons of skill point and class skills, optimized ability cost (just max dex / int / cons and dump every others!), many utility spells, cure wounds, buff/debuff and some elemental damage... it will be a fun character to play, and it help in battle too with the hair/sneak combo!

What do you think about this? Is this a legal build?
How can i optimize that? Wich patron i could take?

Thanks

It's the internet. We can handle anything.

Standard nomenclature is to list the classes in the order leveled, such as: Rogue(Knife Master) 3/Witch(White Haired Witch) 3/Arcane Trickster X.

The White Haired Witch (WHW) is very flavorful, but the loss of Hexes hurts. However, as a dip, it can work well. Do watch out for Arcane Spell Failure when using armor. While Arcane Armor Training can mitigate it, it eats up your swift action.

Grappling does not give you sneak attacks, as you impose a penalty to dex rather than denying dex.

At 3rd level, your hair goes 5', which is not ranged. You need to be 4th level to get 10', ranged. At 4th level, it also allows you to use it for tripping. You also get +1 BAB, +1 Will, a 1st and 2nd level spell, and you learn a 2nd level patron spell. Check out Combat Reflexes, as your hair at 4th gives threatening reach. Extra AoO means extra chances to control the battlefield.

For patrons, I suggest you read up on the Witch guides listed in the Guide to the Guides.

Patron 2nd and 4th spells:
Agility: 2nd—jump, 4th—cat’s grace
Ancestors: 2nd—bless, 4th—aid
Animals: 2nd—charm animals, 4th—speak with animals
Boundaries: 2nd—protection from evil, 4th—see invisibility
Death: 2nd—deathwatch, 4th—blessing of courage and life
Deception: 2nd—ventriloquism, 4th—invisibility
Devotion: 2nd—divine favor, 4th—martyr's bargain
Dimensions: 2nd—hold portal, 4th—rope trick
Elements: 2nd—shocking grasp, 4th—flaming sphere
Enchantment: 2nd—unnatural lust, 4th—calm emotions
Endurance: 2nd—endure elements, 4th—bear’s endurance
Healing: 2nd—remove fear, 4th—lesser restoration
Insanity: 2nd—memory lapse, 4th—hideous laughter
Light: 2nd—dancing lantern, 4th—continual flame
Moon: 2nd—darkness, 4th—darkvision
Occult: 2nd—detect undead, 4th—command undead
Peace: 2nd—sanctuary, 4th—calm emotions
Plague: 2nd—detect undead, 4th—command undead
Portents: 2nd—ill-omen, 4th—locate object
Shadow: 2nd—silent image, 4th—darkness
Spirits: 2nd—ghostbane dirge, 4th—invisibility
Stars: 2nd—faerie fire, 4th—dust of twilight
Strength: 2nd—divine favor, 4th—bull’s strength
Time: 2nd—ventriloquism, 4th—silence
Transformation: 2nd—jump, 4th—bear’s endurance
Trickery: 2nd—animate rope, 4th—mirror image
Vengeance: 2nd—burning hands, 4th—burning gaze
Water: 2nd—bless water/curse water, 4th—slipstream
Winter: 2nd—unshakable chill, 4th—resist energy (cold only)
Wisdom: 2nd—shield of faith, 4th—owl’s wisdom

Arcane Trickster advances Spells, but does not advance Patron Spells, as that is a different class feature.

Invest in UMD, because there will be wands of spells not on your list you will want. Check out the Arcane Strike, as that is a bonus to damage that scales with caster level. It also uses your swift action, so it cannot be used in the same round as Arcane Armor Training.

Whenever you do a build using combat maneuvers look at yoir cmb for the maneuver at the level your schtick starts.

So in this case lvl 7 bab +3. Second to use all the fancy stuff with the hair you have to hit first then use a different stat for the cm than the attack.

thanks!

are you sure that white hairs growth with witch level and not... character level? It's not so clear by wath is written in the book...

i'don't need hex, with prestige class they will have a terrible DC, same problems with spells.. so i need to choose them very well, mostly buff...

the problem is that most of the witch spells use safes :\

i'see this will be a difficult character to play, but i think it will be fun too, maybe most outside battles...

White Hair sais:
"At 4th level and every four levels thereafter, a white-haired witch’s hair adds 5 feet to its reach, to a maximum of 30 feet at 20th level."

CRB p31:
"Note that there are a number of effects and prerequisites that rely on a character’s level or Hit Dice. Such effects are always based on the total number of levels or Hit Dice a character possesses, not just those from one class. The exception to this is class abilities, most of which are based on the total number of class levels that a character possesses of that particular class."

As While Hair is a class ability, it uses class levels.

To add to what Cevah has said. as a general rule when reading class abilities unless they refer to another class, or specifically use the term character levels assume every reference to levels class levels etc always refers to the class.

or in simpler terms other classes dont exist unless the class refers to them.
