I've been reading through threads about spirited charge and whenever they do calculations for the damage, they say 3d8+24 or other equations. but spirited charge says that the damage is tripled. So my question is:
where does the 3d8 come from and where does the high additions come from also. (p.s. can you use power attack with a lance? you can hold on to it with two hands and guide your mount with your legs. but is there a rule saying you can't) if you can, could you please back up your rulings with links?

A couple of points:
1. Yes, you can hold a lance with two hands. But, there is no reason to. By a weird caveat in the rules (solely applying to the lance, I think) you can get the 2-handed bonus to damage while holding it one-handed if you are mounted.
2. A lance deals 1d8 damage plus bonuses. So, if your STR is 18 and you are power attacking (-1 Attack, +3 Damage), that would be 1d8 + 9. This is doubled on a mounted charge, and tripled on a spirited charge. Tripled does not mean [(1d8 + 9) x 3]. Instead it means [(1 x 3)d8 + (9 x 3)].

A medium sized lance does 1d8 damage normal. Charging with it (double damage) will do 2d8 damage. Charging with Spirited Charge (triple damage) will do 3d8 damage. That's just the dice, then add in normal damage modifiers.
Yes, you can power attack with a lance while charging.
All of this is in the core rulebook.
