Amazing Spider-man 2 is a decent movie smothered by layers of crap.
Well...that review, plus the rottentomato score (55%) no longer makes me terribly excited about this movie. Sound like my fears of too many villains and sideplots might have come true

Several of the things brought up in these reviews were fears I had when hearing about the movie. I've never liked the whole "mystery of Peter's parents" storylines. They don't matter. I want Spider-Man fighting crime, working the whole "with great power..." angle, and being a character with whom I can empathize. I didn't want the whole "everything is connected" schlock with his parents, Oscorp, and everything else being part of the same tapestry. While the idea of the Sinister Six is great, the whole point of the formation of that group was that no single member of that group could best Spidey solo. Which means that you need Spidey to fight them--duh--solo first to get the point across.
Also, Rhino? Yuck. Just...yuck.

I saw it this afternoon and I loved it. Absolutely loved it. Like, best Spidey film so far loved it.
I can see where people are coming up with complaints regarding some of the subplots in the film, but they honestly didn't bother me, and the actual Spider-man being Spider-man stuff was so, perfect, so spot-on. Plus, as with the last one, I thought the Peter and Gwen scenes were terrific. About the worst thing I can say is that they set up more stuff for the sequel than they actually resolved, but I don't see that as a failing for the middle of a trilogy.
One other thing I will say, the advertising is a bit deceptive regarding the role of Rhino in the film. That was a little disappointing, but the scenes with him more than make up for it.
I think I'm definitely going to see it again.

Ah yes the movie that broke Movie Bob
I might have given this guy's opinion a little more weight if he hadn't referred to "Starfish-Face" Electro as one of Spider-man's coolest looking villains. Seriously? Is this an opinion people hold?

I found it extremely disappointing. There were parts I liked. For instance, the first thirty minutes or so are fantastic. Amazing, even. After that, it turns into a muddled mess in the same way that Spider-Man 3 did. The last twenty minutes are also quite good. Jamie Foxx is genuinely bad in his role, and the no-name actor that plays Harry Osborn is not up to the task. There is a particular subplot that seems like it should have been in the first movie that drags the middle down hard.
