Is holy water an alchemical item? I would like to get an official answer to this, so if you feel inclined please hit the FAQ button on this post.
IMO the definition of an alchemical item is an item which is made using the Craft (alchemy) skill. However as was pointed out to me by a local player there is no definition of an alchemical in any rulebook that I can find.
See this thread for a two-year old discussion of this.
This recently came up in this thread about the grenadier archetype.
In the CRB holy water is on the "Special Substances and Items" chart, and the explanation at the top of the list of those items states:
Any of these substances except for the everburning torch and holy water can be made by a character with the Craft (alchemy) skill.
Only in Ultimate Equipment is it included on a chart called "Alchemical Weapons".
The header on the Alchemical Weapons chart in Ultimate Equipment states:
Each of these substances can be made with the Craft (alchemy) skill."
By refering to the CRB we know that is not true for holy water. Holy water is made using the bless water spell.
The hybridization funnel from Ultimate Equipment also addresses this issue tangentially by saying:
The bearer can use it to mix an alchemical splash weapon with either holy water or unholy water, but the Craft (alchemy) DC increases to 30;
