I am interested in developing a Paladin/Cavalier multiclass character that I will be using in the Pathfinder Society. My plan was to have it utilize a wolf as a mount.
When looking at the Cavalier class it states a small character can choose a wolf, "A Small cavalier can select a pony or wolf, but can also select a boar or a dog if he is at least 4th level."
If I started my character as a Paladin, and then at second level decided to add the cavalier, would I gain a free mount, specifically a wolf for it's Mount Class feature? I didn't know how that would work. When looking at the cavalier threads, it said it gets the free mount, but none of the threads I was looking at were related to incorporating the cavalier as a multiclass into an already existing character. I just was a little confused how this mount would appear out of no where.
This will be my first multiclassed character and the other thing I was confused on was how BAB/Saves work when leveling. So for example, I start with my Paladin. At first level he has BAB +1 and +2, +0, +2 for his respective saves. At second level I choose to multiclass to Cavalier. Would I then add the Cavalier's 1st level BAB +1 and +2, +0 , +0 to the Paladin's 1st level stats, resulting in BAB +2 and +4, +0, +0 OR would they just be a wash with each other and utilizing the Paladin's initial 1st level stats of BAB +1 and +2, +0, +2.
As the character progresses, I would choose to use the Paladin's divine bond towards a weapon and ignore the rules for a mount to remove the confusion associated with the mount my character was utilizing.
Also, since this is for the Pathfinder Society, are there specific mount requirements for Pathfinder Society such as obtaining a wolf through a boon or something?

Yes, if you multi-classed to a cav at second level, you would receive a mount since it is one of the cav's class features. However, just like a druid's animal companion, the mount will level with only your cavalier levels. For instance, if you are a first level paladin and take a one level dip in cavalier and then go back to paladin, you would be a 3rd level character with a 1st level mount. Which might make for a squishy mount at higher levels.

1. Going by RAW, multiclassing isn't relevant in this case. When you take your first level of cavalier, you get a mount, no charge.
2. Sum the BAB and saves from your highest class levels in each class you have. So your cavalier 1/paladin 1 would have BAB +2 and base saving throws of +4, +0, and +2, the sum of your values at level 1 of each class.
If you want PFS-specific information, please post in the PFS forums.

Yeah, true, although there is a feat specifically for cavaliers that helps with that problem. The feat Horse Master requires the expert trainer class feature (which cavaliers get at level 4) and 6 ranks in ride, and it lets you just use your character level as your effective druid level.
Unfortunately, of course, you can't use this feat until level 7 (or 6 if you are going fighter since it is a combat feat), and in PFS play, you would honestly be better off just taking Boon Companion, which can boost effective druid level up to 4 so it can match your character level.

Pathfinder Society boon chronicles let you use options outside the standard rules. You don't need one to have a wolf mount for a Small-size character.

If you plan eventually to have full companion progression, as a Cavalier X/Paladin 5 does, Horse Master only helps you for a handful of levels, if any, considering the level you need to take it. Boon Companion may last longer but also will become obsolete. At worst your mount will be 4 levels below you for a level - I think you'll want another feat more.
