Before starting I would like to say I am new to pathfinder so I apologize if this question seems obvious. I am playing a tiefling magus and I am annoyed that there is no fire equivalent to shocking grasp, which seems to be the core damage spell this class uses. So my question is whether there are any problems with altering shocking grasp so that it is say burning grasp. I particularly want to know if there is a reason why there is no fire touch spell. As a tiefling my character has a affinity with fire and it feels lame to use lightning all the time. I realize that burning hands is an alternative but as it is not a touch spell I can not deliver it through spellstrike without taking useless abilities that would do more harm to my character than good. Thanks for any advice.

Greetings. Welcome to the Pathfinder Society.
The only way to modify your Shocking Grasp and make it Flaming Grasp would be to utilize a metamagic feat called Elemental Spell (Fire). This will change the damage type to Fire instead of Electricity, at the cost of raising the spell level by 1. There are a couple ways to mitigate the increase in spell level as well.
But, other than that, or multiclassing into some other branch of Wizardry or Sorcery, you may not modify spells outside of their printed rules (which isn't just a PFS specific rule, it's how the rules for Pathfinder are set).

you can describe how the spell looks however you choose.
You can not change what the spell does, how people can identify it, or the specifics of what it does (like say changing the electrical damage of shocking grasp to do fire damage instead). Anyone making the requisite check will know that shocking grasp is a shocking grasp spell. There are items, class abiltites, and feats that allow you to make specific rules/crunch changes that could allow you to make the alterations you seem to be looking for. I would suggest you check them out.

Thanks for the advise I'll look into the elemental metamagic feat I guess, I just wish I could use spell research and and pay a flat gp fee to change the spell. Sigh.
Assuming you have the proper books, then Elemental Spell + Magical Lineage (a trait) = you have exactly the spell you're looking for.
