I would first like to apologize if this has been posted before.
I was wondering why on the two weapon combat style feat list there is improved shield bash. I do not understand how improved shield bash works with two-weapon fighting unless you mix it with two-weapon defense which bestows a +1 shield bonus when wielding two weapons.
Any help on this is much appreciated.

You can Two-Weapon Fight with a sword and shield.
If you also have Improved Shield Bash, you don't lose your AC bonus when you do so.
Kinda obsolete now that there's a dedicated Sword and Shield Style, but on release there was only Archery and Two-Weapon Fighting to choose from, so they threw the Sword and Board peeps a bone.

Two-weapon defense gives you either a +1 or +2 shield bonus, which doesn't stack with using an actual shield.
For those that want a higher shield bonus (by enchanting their shield), but still want to make an extra off-hand attack, Improved Shield Bash is the better feat.

The dedicated sword and shield style only gives twf. If you want lots of attacks go with the twf style. If you want shield mastery then go with the new one.
Agreed. While the sword and shield style is not bad, necessarily, it still takes you away from the typical appeal of a TWF ranger. Plus, I often hear of people being at tables that limit their book choices. So for Core only, a regular TWF build is your only choice.
