Good Afternoon Fellow Gamers,
I have a question for you.
Say I have an Orc Fighter with a bunch of hand axes and a BAB of +6+1
* Can I hurl 3 axes in a turn (with Rapid Shot?)
* Can I throw axes at my target, and then 5-ft step into melee and hit him again (to get the Opening Volley bonus)?
* If I can throw at multiple people and 5-ft step, would the two 'thrown' axes be at -2 (rapid shot) but the melee axe at my normal iterative bonus?
Thank you for your time.
Very Respectfully,

1. I have always interpreted Rapid Shot to apply to thrown ranged weapons, even though it uses the word "fire" in its description. So yes, you could throw three axes - start with two in hand, throw them with your two BAB iterative attacks, then use Quick Draw to draw a third and throw it using the Rapid Shot attack.
2. This came up in a different thread. My reading of the rules is that nothing stops you from mixing melee and ranged attacks in a round. The rules also state that you can take a 5-foot step as part of a full-round action. So yes, you could throw two axes at the target, then 5-foot in to be adjacent to the target and gain the circumstance bonus from Opening Valley against that target.
3. As written, the penalty from Rapid Shot applies to all attacks made during the round, so it should apply to the melee attack as well. From a fluff perspective, you're moving too quickly to be careful in order to get an extra throw\shot off, and so you'd still be pressed for time on a melee attack also.
