Lowest level to get the simulacrum spell?

Advice

I am playing a kingmaker game and I read the simulacrum spell and fall in love it seems to be the perfect way to fill up seats on the council (with loyal and competent members) and if I make simulacrum's of the party we can adventure and otherwise play hooky and no-one will ever know.

The thing is simulacrum is a 7th level spell for wizards and 5th for Summoners. I frankly don't want to wait till level 13 get it for all I know the game won't last that long any advise for get the spell at a lower level if I build for it?

Yes I know scrolls exist, but that would be expensive and sometimes DM's don't like making high level scrolls available.

Both the wizard, sorcerer, and clone master alchemist get lesser simulacrum at 7th level.

lesser simulacrum is not loyal to the caster and more importantly it only lasts hr/lv. So you can't really use it to make a council member.

First off, note that it's a spell that's very badly written and exceptionally easy to abuse to the point of making the campaign less fun, and it's also a spell heavily dependant on GM adjudication.

That said, the lowest access point is 13th level naturally, if you don't want to spend cash. A scroll should cost 1625 gp, as that's the cheapest they can be made.

Another option might be to take the leadership feat and get the lesser simulacrum spell, creating a copy of yourself and having it as a cohort (to get the loyalty needed, since lesser simulacrums are free-willed).

Or, you could take the leadership feat and give your cohorts hats of disguise to look like you.

I figure so long at I use the spell to make things where you can half their level easy (class levels) it should be alright. I don't plan on bringing them into combat sense they are expensive to repair.

Lesser Simulacrum does not last long enough.

Yeah, as long as you use it on stuff that gets it's power from class levels and don't consciously try to abuse it, it should be relatively fine, assuming the GM can hold the reigns of the exponential power that may come from them. Reasonable use will hardly upset anything, unless one tries to use it on certain monsters (which might make them broken by accident).

Lesser Simulacrum has a short duration, you're right on that, hmmm. Perhaps talk to the GM whether Permanency could be used on a lesser simulacrum?

Hm I so didn't know the duration was different. I'll delve deeper and see what I can find.

For the most part Simulacrum is only broken if you use it the copy broken monsters. It's a problem with the creatures not the spell. I mean the wish granting genie trick could be done with planer binding as well.

I actually like your idea behind it, seems like how it should be used.

An exception is the succubus, as profane gift really only works when you have absolute control as the backlash is really nasty (you could flesh to stone her in theory, but that's really risky plus it misses out on the telepathy node). Of course, Antipaladins get THAT as a class feature at level 11 out of the box.

OT on balance issues:
Now, I'd say the same thing about planar binding, that it's an easily abusable spell and heed should be taken lest it might ruin a campaign, but there are a few notable differences:

1. Extremely high HD cap. At 13th level, you can planar bind something with 12 HD, so a monster that generally has CR 9-12 and abilities appropriate for a monster of CR 9-12. At the same level, simulacrum allow you to copy something with an HD up to 26, which includes stuff like Solars and Pit Fiends. Depending on GM adjudication they might lose most of their SLA's, and also depending on GM interpretation you might or might not need to have one of the creatures at hand when making it, but those are issues which planar binding doesn't even have.
2. Complete loyalty. Unlike planar binding, there'll be no twisting of orders.
3. No max duration or standing cost.

This means it is much more open to exponential abuse than planar binding, and much less can be done by the GM without using actual house rules.

I find planar binding to have about the same potential of brokenness, but being less likely to break anything and being easier to fix in home games.

Now, your intent does not seem to be to abuse it, and so there shouldn't really be any issue - but when I read the opening post, I got the impression that you had just discovered the spell, and so I felt a warning was needed to take care.

Well for the Simulacrum at least you have to pay for what you get. A Succubus would cost 2,000 gp to make about the same cost as a +2 stat bonus altho I expect the DM would make it so it only gave a +1 profane bonus. What I find more interesting is it's ability to communicate over any distance that could be very useful for keeping informed about kingdom affairs.

Make an advanced (double HD) Succubus then. You can do it at the lowest level you can get the spell at.
