Tiny animated object and useful things

Advice

Liberty's Edge

Ultimate Magic lists the cost of a tiny animated object as 250gp. I am having trouble figuring out a) what the things stats would be, b) can I make it look like whatever I want? I'm thinking something like a miniature stone golem, c) could I have it hand me scrolls, wands, etc on my turn?, and finally d) what type of action would it be for me to take said wands or scrolls from it? This is a pathfinder game but not pathfinder society if that makes a difference.

A) Tiny Construct Stats

B) Animated Object Rules

An animated object is not simply one monster, but a whole category. Stats are included here for Tiny through Colossal animated objects (with Construction Points that have not been spent to gain additional abilities), but any object can become animated, most commonly via the spell animate objects. Permanent animated objects can be built using the Craft Construct feat. Unless an animated object uses a Construction Point to be made of another material, all animated objects are made of wood or material of equivalent hardness.

Emphasis was me. You can have that animated object look like anything you want..... what? Don't look at me like that. I'm just saying.

C)I honestly don't know this one. I'm not seeing rules that state either way if you can or cannot. They don't normally 'wield' weapons like a humanoid would, so this might go into DM fiat territory. Anybody else have more info on this?

D)Picking up an item is a move action. I don't believe its any different if it is handed to you or if you pick it up off the floor.

Manipulate an Item

Moving or manipulating an item is usually a move action.

This includes retrieving or putting away a stored item, picking up an item, moving a heavy object, and opening a door. Examples of this kind of action, along with whether they incur an attack of opportunity, are given in Table: Actions in Combat.

I've often seen it ruled that passing an item from one person to another takes a move action and the participants get to decide who spends it. Then you could have the animated object retrieve it with one move and put it into your hand with the other, so you don't have to spend any actions.

Interesting, never noticed that those are that cheap to get. I hope I don't derail the thread too much.

Would an animated rope be tiny?
With a climb speed it should be able to reach most places where climbing is possible, I guess. But how would it work if the rope tries to secure itself so someone can climb it? It is not strong enough to lift people, but normal rope without a strength can be climbed, too.

An would an animated flute be able to play itself? And if so can you add a skill to it? Because without it this flute would have a perform skill of -4 if I got everything right.

Where does an animated object with a ranged attack get its ammo from? Does it generate the ammo magically or does it need a source for it?. For example an animated sling with the ranged attack ability. It would get an additional CP for being made from cloth so no problem buying the ranged ability.

Depends on the length and weight of the rope. I'd consult this page for more information on size restrictions.

I'm not finding anything that could prevent that. Might go into dm fiat territory depending on how good of a knot you want it to make.

Constructs cannot take ranks in skills. However, you can use the bioconstruct: brain modification to bypass this. That being said, there is nothing stopping it from using the skill untrained.

Magic. I can't find anything in the rules to suggest they use ammo.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If I was wearing an animated helmet with a ranged attack, would enemies be able to attack it separately from me or would they need to make a sunder maneuver?
And would the helmet provoke separately or would it be me provoking?
It is an attended object, which would only be attackable with sunder but it would be the object making the ranged attack.
