Touch spells + Natural attacks. What happens first?

The Concordance

My Druid likes to Wildshape into an Emperor Cobra. If I cast...

Pernicious Poison:
School necromancy [poison]; Level antipaladin 2, druid 2, sorcerer/wizard 2, witch 2
CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, DF
EFFECT
Range touch
Target creature touched
Duration 10 minute/level
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance yes
You weaken the target’s defenses against poison. The target gains a –4 penalty on saves against poison, and poisons affecting the target continue for another 2 frequency increments (for example, black adder venom lasts 8 rounds instead of 6, and arsenic lasts for 6 minutes instead of 4). Attempts to cure the poisoned target with skill or magic take a –4 penalty.

...while in Wildshape, hold the charge, and then bite my opponent the following round, will the spell take effect before the poison save is required?

You deal normal damage for your unarmed attack or natural weapon and the spell discharges.

I'd say the damage (and poison) is dealt and then the spell is delivered.

I'd say they happen at the same time. Otherwise you could have the unusual situation of the natural attack damage is enough to kill the monster, so did the spell actually go off or is the caster still holding the charge.

I would say that they're all simultaneous. The touch spell is triggered by hitting with the natural attack, and so would take affect at the same time as the damage and the poison. So, no, the first shot of poison wouldn't get the save penalty.

On the other hand, you get a free touch attack when casting a touch spell, so you could just touch in the round you cast it (assuming you can 5' step within reach), and then still bite the following round.

The Concordance

Yeah, the slow motion version that was playing out in my mind was the moment my fangs make contact, but before they pierce flesh, the spell would be delivered, and then the fangs penetrate and deal damage, requiring a save.

But I think James has the answer in print. Thanks!

I don't see why the spell wouldn't affect the target before the poison is resolved - poisons are hardly instantaneous effects.

Regardless of this answer, the spell would affect the remaining rounds of the initial poison if the save failed.

In real life maybe, but in Pathfinder, a number of poisons that are injury-delivered ARE instantaneous.
