Does the Admixture Vial cause the combined extracts to have the same upcharge as if using the Combined Extracts discovery, or is it simply a straight addition of two extracts?

upcharge as in costing higher slot ?
I was always under the impression it did not. That's why it wrote the specification for nothing above 3. It isn't any stronger than the discovery (except for the usage amount) It just let you use it a lot sooner.

Too late to edit previous, now that I'm a bit less multi tasking.

It says you combine two extracts into the vial. I read this as you took two extracts you already made and basically just poured them in. So there isn't a higher cost of spell levels since they're made already. Thats what I took from the listings. Where as combine extract says you put two fomulae into one, but at a higher level.

I thought this item let you use lower slots to combine, but it costs you an extra slot.
but it's very possible I overly focused on the usage of Extract and Formulae

Silver Crusade

Well the wording on Combine Extract is as follows:

Quote:
Benefit: When the alchemist creates an extract, he can place two formulae into one extract. When the extract is consumed, both formulae take effect. This extract has a level two levels higher than the highest-level formulae placed in the extract.

The discovery charges a higher slot, so while it'd make sense for the item to do the same, it's not really clear on if it does or not. If it doesn't, it's insanely good. If not, it's as good as the discovery, which isn't very.

If it costed the adjusted like the discovery would it have to specify 3rd level extracts? normal it one could pay the higher spell level and combine up to a lv 4 slot no? but this only 3rd.

I was under the impression that instead of costing you 1 3-6lv slot, this costs you money, once a day, and 2 lower slots.

Thats how I read it at least.. Since it doesn't specify needing higher slots, and it uses the word extract(i.e. already made) instead of formulae . So I don't think you make the formulae in the bottle in the morning. You make two extract which you pour in kinda like hybrid--is how I viewed it. It seems fair as well, it doesn't out stripe the discovery which can combine lv 4 extracts, and as many times a day.

It does reference "as combine extracts" so it could want it that way, but I don't think they would have referred to extract level max 3.

I can see either way, though I strongly lean towards costing 2 already made extracts of the lower levels version.

edit: I would agree the discovery itself is a bit hit and miss. though
