Longbow Question

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

The Longbow Card reads: 'for your combat check, reveal this card to roll your Dexterity or Ranged die + your unmodified Strength die. '

Shock Longbow +1 reads, 'for your combat check, reveal this card to roll your dexterity or Ranged die + 1d8+1; you may additionally discard this card to add your unmodified Strength die with the electricity trait'.

Is the Longbow supposed to add 1d8 when revealed, with the option to discard to add unmodified strength die?

If not then why is the Electric longbow so superior to regular Longbow, while the flaming mace +1 is only +1 (with fire on discard) better than the mace? both electric longbow and flaming mace have the same check to acquire number: 11.

I asked about this at BGG, and here is the answer Chad Gave.

"The specific answer to this specific question: the Longbow is a composite longbow, while the Shock Longbow +1 isn't. We removed the word `Composite' from the name because it confused more people than it helped, and it made some of the names uncomfortably long"

Depending on the character, the Shock Longbow +1 will prove to be more powerful. Although, I don't have the characters in front of me to make sure I'm 100%.

Anyone whose strength die was less than a d8 would be better off revealing the Shock Longbow + 1 instead of the Longbow. That would include Harsk, Lem, Lini and Sajan, among others. Those 4 though would be likely to want to use a weapon that was dexterity based.

Valeros would also really like the Shock Longbow + 1 because he can recharge it to roll 1d10 + 2d8 + 1. And of course if he becomes Weapon Master that becomes 2d10 + 1d8 + 4.
