Are Spiked Shields Druid-Friendly?

Rules Questions

Simple question: Do shield spikes have to be metal, or can my PFS half-orc druid use them?

EDIT: I do realize he's not actually proficient in their use as weapons, by the way. He just feels uncomfortable if something he owns can't be used to disembowel someone.

I would imagine you can make some wooden spiked shields, too. Also, you could use a Klar. I think it came out in UC, but I have the UE book right here and it is as follows

The traditional form of this tribal weapon is a short blade bound to the skull of a large horned lizard but but a skilled smith can craft one entirely out of metal.

I don't see why you cant just replace the blade with some bones and call it a day.

Edit
Also I forgot to mention the UE book states you can use bone for wood or metal, so now I am thinking for sure you can make a bone spike shield, just be ready to enchant or replace the bone alot... lol.

I'm pretty sure that as long as it's not the blade portion protecting me, it'd be okay.

Sadly, I own neither sourcebook. PFS rules being what they are and me being cheap as I am, I'm pretty happy with the spiked shield. Thanks, though! ;D

Doesn't say the spikes have to be metal, so wood spikes or bone spikes would be reasonable. Maybe even just use a thornbush?

I'm kind of thinking something like that--a messy tangle of animal spines and sharpened branches. Crude, but effective.

Just ducttape a hedgehog to a wooden plank ^.^

RE the title: Depends which side is facing the Druid

As for the actual topic, I'd say you could have a wooden Spiked shield, same as you could have a wooden shield, and a wooden spear/stake/ect

Grand Lodge

The material of the spikes have no effect on Druid abilities.

The spikes are metal, not the armor.

The spikes are weapons, not armor.

Druids can wield metal weapons without drawbacks.

Druids can also wear spiked armor, as long as the base armor is not metal.

A spiked shield is considered a weapon. So long as the shield is wooden, the spikes can be metal. A druid ONLY loses her special powers when wearing forbidden armor.

No where in the druid Proficiency section does it say they lose their Su and Sp abilities by using a weapon not specified in their proficiency section. So, you could be a greatsword-wielding druid if you wanted. Same goes for armor spikes (since they are considered weapons).

The prohibition is on ARMOR only. So you could have metal spikes on your shield and armor and be A-OK.

Of course, this is my interpretation on this, as I am unsure if there is an actual FAQ on this.

Edit: Seems I was a bit slow and BBT got to it first.

Technically, spikes are classified the same as shields in the tables, but that's splitting hairs. ;D
