Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

So basically I was reading a lot of threads here and it clearly said that when Player A encounters, Player A would be the one to roll the checks regardless if Player B is also in Player A's location. Is this right?

With that said, what are, if any, the advantages of 2 players forming parties and clearing a location?

If an encounter has more than 1 check.
Any character at the location can help, but the character who encountered the Card (in your case player A) has to at least make one of those checks.

The advantages would be that you get through the location faster, and there are Villains that are harder to beat if you are alone.
And of course healing or trading. Both only work at the same location (the ally Merchant breaks this, and i don´t know if there will be healing that is not limited to your location in later APs)

There are spell and abilitys that only work at your location. So you have to be together before you can use them to support another charactor. For example all the various healing ablitys.

Also sometimes you realy want to close down a location in a hurry and having mutipal charactors at a location is the best way to do it.

Having said that there are bains that hit everyone at a location so banding together in a big party is not all good news.

Oh... this changes everything. In my games, player B can try to roll for Player A's check for as long as both are in the same location.

There are some locations that have 'at this location' powers that do terrible things at the start (or end) of your turn. It is good to double or triple up at these locations to reduce the number of times any one character needs to suffer those effects. In fact, for start of turn effects, if the entire party goes there and you either get lucky and find the villain early or you have multiple explores, you never have to face a 'start of turn' effect.

Azure, I think you missed something here.

The only time a character can make a check for an encounter involving another character is if there is more than one check needed to defeat/acquire the card.

For example:

Player A explores and encounters the villain. The villain requires a Combat 12 and a Combat 15 to defeat it. In this case Player B is in the same location as Player A. Player A has to attempt at least one of these checks. If Player B wanted to attempt the other check he could, but this is not required. If Player B does not attempt one of the checks then Player A must attempt both checks. If Player B does attempt one of the checks, then Player A cannot attempt that same check.

In which ever case from above if either of the attempts fails then the villain would be undefeated.

I hope this clears things up.
