At Keeper's Canyon, the Knights of Kenabres faced off against two demonic armies and nearly got killed. Combination of bad, bad, awful rolls and the demons attacking aggressively. The Knights went down to 5 HP.
The module doesn't really address what happens if the PCs army is destroyed outside Drezen.

"Defeated" doesn't have to mean killed. Many of the knights could have been captured. Put them with the others that have been captured in Drezen, and give your PCs a "Liberating the Army" series of encounters. They have to win their way into the encampment, free the captured soldiers, re-arm them, then have the army win their way free to friendlier ground. That could pretty easily be very heroic and exciting.

If the PCs lose their army, you have a few options.
1) Let them continue anyway; the adventure should shift to a more of an infiltration-based mission than anything else, but taking out Drezen without an army is a suitable story for mythic heroes.
2) Let them return to Kenabres and report the event, then get a replacement army. Alternately, they might only need to return to something like Valas's Gift or Vilareth Ford to recruit a new army.
3) Treat it the same you'd treat a TPK. I wouldn't recommend this though.
4) Have the PCs get captured and turn it into a "prison escape" type adventure.

Don't even bother using the Combat Rules and instead craft specific encounters for the players - they attack the enemy camp at the same time as the army attacking the enemy army, and go after the army's leader and a few enemies. As the players prevail, so too have the army prevail. If the party is failing, so too does the army fail.
This allows all of the players to have a greater role in the conflict and also doesn't limit it to one or two rolls which can easily go sour.
You'll have to do some more work to craft suitable encounters for the party to fight, but no doubt the players will have a more fun time of it.

So far my players have won the first two army battles, and like them very much. The second one was close. The DM has to watch out for damaging Tactics and Strategies, because those can defeat the Knights of Kenabres pretty fast.
Don't forget about Nurah's horn. It helped my group won the second battle.
