Frost Fey for a PC

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I'm playing in a campaign set in the northern areas around Kalsgard and Irrisen. I would like to play an ice-themed fey from the region, any suggestions? The GM is fine with putting something together with the Advanced Race rules as long as it is making a playable version of a creature that already exists in Golarion.

Lantern Lodge

There is a "winter-touched" template designed for fey in the Reign of Winter AP, book 1.

Might be a place to look for inspiration.

In one of the late RoRL books, there is some kind of Ice Nymph. Maybe you should take a look at the conversion.

How about an "ice elf"?

Replace Elven Immunities with Elemental Resistance 5 against Cold.
Elven magic with either Desert Runner or Silent Hunter.
Select weapon familiarity with spears, nets and short bows.
Replace Common with either Shoanti or Skald.

Maybe even change the size to small.

Grand Lodge

In first edition there was a "monster" race called "Frost Men" that were about the same, "CR-wise" as a hobgoblin or a norker. They were in the 1981 Fiend Folio. Probably find it online somewhere.

You could probably get away with the frost fey template on a low-powered fey, like already suggested. Perhaps the Gathalin in Bestairy 4/Advanced Race Guide. Would be an interesting concept...a cold plant-fey.

Lantern Lodge

Use the Advanced Race Guide. There is a Fey-race option. Just work it up with cold resistance, etc and keep it around 8-12 RP.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You could probably tweak Purple Duck's 0-HD forlarren into a cold fey "frostfaun".

Drop the Remorse trait, swap out Hellfires for something like:

Quote:
(4 RP) Gelid Heart: Frostfauns add +1 to the DC of any saving throws against spells they cast with the cold descriptor. Frostfauns with a Charisma score of 12 or higher also gain the following spell-like abilities: 1/day--chill metal, faerie fire, and ray of frost.

swap out Abyssal for Aklo, and throw in resist cold (5) or resist cold 10) for an extra 1 or 2 RPs respectively. That brings it in at 11 or 12 RP total, right in line powerwise with the player races. Maybe swap out the two claw attacks for a single "headbutt" (as gore, but bludgeoning damage) to lower it another 1 RP.
