Favoured class

Hi. New to Pathfinder.
Just reading the core book and I'm a bit ambivalent about the interpretation of favoured class. Does this apply to ALL characters, or is it intended to be a sub section of multi-classers? If the former are we saying that all characters get an extra hp or skill point every level unless they branch out? Can't say I see the point, actually.

It's one of a few subtle methods used to steer you away from multiclassing (IMO).

A 5th level, single-classed character (for example) would have either 4 more skill points or 4 more hit points than a multi-classed character with 5 different levels.

Once you break out from the CRB you'll find some races have really cool FCBs, while others still aren't as good as +1hp or +1 skill point.

I rather like the idea behind FCBs. Makes for less "cookie cutter" characters, gives you more options for customization, and it sometimes makes you really think twice before multiclassing.
