I have a tattooed sorcerer, a little confused about the spell tattoo thing. I have Eschew Materials, btw.
Basically want to know; can I give a spell tattoo to my familiar? Up until just now I had always thought "well, yeah, that's the whole point of the archetype. That's why you get the familiar in the first place."
But now I'm not so sure. If the tattoo is basically a scroll, then is it activated like a scroll? Does my familiar need to have the requisite CHA score to cast? Because yeah... a fox's CHA score is 6.
even with my ranks in UMD, with the cha penalty for the familiar, not going to ever be enough to use UMD to activate a spell tattoo that I create.

Yes, a spell tattoo is a scroll you have inked onto your body. Your familiar would only be able to use a spell tattoo if it could use scrolls in the first place, and had an anatomy that was conducive to having a tattoo placed on it (for example, I'm not sure where or how you would tattoo a raven).
You get the nifty ability to hide your familiar on your body as a tattoo, but otherwise it is a normal familiar and follows all of the normal rules.

A familiar could use a spell tattoo given a couple of prerequisites:
It would need a slot available to put the tattoo and be able to use it from there, and
It would have to be able to cast the spell on the scroll, either with spellcasting ability, or using UMD.
Usually, I have my tattooed sorceress offer the spell tattoos to other party members, or have her use them herself as two more castings in a day. (not quite as powerful as a spell cast from a spell slot, but still very useful.)
hm... ok, well new plan then. Because it's spell completion I could still use it to cast things with a very long casting time for a standard action (plus the standard action of "setup" time, which can be done beforehand) though, right? such as: Detonate, Scrying, Contingency, metamagic-enhanced spells.
