Nets- What are they Made of?

Rules Questions

Seriously... What can you make a net out of special material wise?

Shadow Lodge

Anything fibrous.

Since rope made of silk and monstrous spider silk exists, I'd assume you could make a silk net that would be lighter and stronger. Based on the rope, I'd guess silk doubles HP (to 10), increases strength break DC by +1 (to 26), reduces weight by half (3lbs), and costs 10x the price (200gp) while monstrous silk triples HP (to 15), increases strength break DC by +2 (to 27), reduces weight by half (3lbs), and costs 100x the price (2000gp). I'd probably say that the monstrous silk version was "always masterwork," too, because that's in the price range of mithral or adamantine weapons.

Griffon Mane would probably be OK, though I don't know why you'd want to give someone in a net a bonus to Fly checks (it does increase HP, though).

Griffon Mane:
HP/inch as normal cloth x2; Hardness 1; Cost see table

This rough-spun cloth, ranging in color from golden-brown to brown-black, is woven from the mane of leonine magical beasts, primarily griffons but also chimeras and manticores, and is exceptionally strong and light. Wearing a cloak, robe, clothing outfit, or padded or quilted armor made from griffon mane grants a +2 competence bonus on Fly checks. If an item made of griffon mane is magically given the ability to fly, the cost to add that specific magical property is reduced by 10%, though this does not reduce the cost of any other abilities the item has.

Other items +50 gp/lb.

Hemp, silk, and spider silk is all I'm aware of, conceptually, but there aren't any price breakdowns to do it. For a home game you might be able to determine a cost multiplier based on the prices of the different types of ropes out there. You also might be able to convince your GM that Darkleaf Cloth is reasonable, but as written you can only use it for items normally crafted of leather.

Hmm.. So no chain based nets. Monstrous spider silk is probably what I'd need to go for.

Shadow Lodge

There's also the Impervious enhancement to make your net stronger.

Grand Lodge

There is the Force Net, which is made of Silver and Magical Force.

I can't seem to find that.

But Impervious seems to be right up my alley in something to get. Cause as is, its too easy for an enemy to break the net.

Spending a lot of money on spider silk could help a lot.. but its going to be expensive.

Impervious would give me +100 hp and +20 hardness. That could be quite good there.

Also, is a Snag Net a Net? Like Scorpion Whip is a Whip?

Little squares.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Blood of the Night pg. 31.

Force Net:
Force Net

Aura strong evocation CL 13th
Slot none; Price 10,320 gp; Weight 6 lbs.
Description
The threads of this +1 ghost touch net are made of silver and magical force. The net has 15 hit points and can be burst with a successful DC 30 Strength check (a full-round action). The net can be used to entrap an incorporeal or gaseous creature, which can attempt a DC 20 Escape Artist check to get out. If a spirit creature possessing a body, such as a vetala, is trapped in the net, it cannot abandon its physical host unless it escapes or bursts the net.
Construction
Requirements Craft Magic Arms and Armor, forcecage; Price 5,320 gp

Well.. That would be cool. Not the best, but If I can build the next off that. Still, just have basic magics.. According to hero lab I could use Fire-forge steel on it.. Which could result in a weapon that actually does damage.

Grand Lodge

Snag Net deals damage.

How about an ethereal net?

A what?

Snag net kinda seems to do damage but not. No more than a single point of damage. And i'm not sure if it acts like Scorpion whip to a normal whip, or Composite bow to a normal bow.
