You know, thinking out loud here....
I'd really be amused if someone could come up with lyrics for an opera....or even MUSIC...SINGING of said opera pieces.
OH! We'd print the words, and a link to YouTube, where people could LISTEN to the songs sung by a fan versed in opera singing!
:D
That'd be cool. Unrealistic? Probably. BUT COOL.
;-)

You know that Celestial Healer sings in a choir or something like that?

I sent word to local PFSer and professional opera singer, Mahtobedis!

Update: He might be interested in writing Chelish Opera words to the tunes of songs from extant operas (using the same notes), but he says he isn't up for writing all-new music. Would you be interested in that?
Either way, he'd be happy to sing whichever piece is in Wayfinder for the youtube video, as the singing part is his area of expertise.

Ok, this totally seems the place to ask since I can't find it anywhere. I thought I remembered seeing somewhere an herb or flower or something that would make Devils (my luck it was Demons) susceptible to normal weapons. It's growing was outlawed and it's hard to come by. I thought it was in reference to Cheliax, but now I'm not sure. Anyone able to help me out? I'd been playing with a story idea, but if I can't find it...well I could always make it up.

Is it agreed, that Chelaxian opera would sound to our ears like real-world opera, ie a strong influence of Italian and German?
I don't want to be doing a Tolkien, and inventing a fake classical language to sing it in.
;)
I always thought the Infernal influence would have it sounding more like Klingon opera ... German would lend itself to that sound moreso than Italian.

I can see the 'Faust' influence on Cheliax, that the country has sealed a bargain they may come to regret.
And I loved the example they printed (AP26?), 'The Six Trials of Lazarod'. I saw the original art for the 'Six Trials...', by Sara Otterstätter, and it is exquisite. That woodcut style calls back to Albrecht Dürer, and the Lutheran period, again very apt.
A pity that the song I was thinking of parodying was half in Italian, and featured a diva that brings to mind the cover of 'The Sixfold Trial'.
I'll have to dig that out, and see if the NPCs have more German or Italian names and flavour.

Huh. Missed that one. This is what happens when I don't buy all the books.

WOW. I'm impressed that the idea of a opera song is taking hold!
I would think that it being sung in German or Italian would be best (let's NOT make up a new language). I also think it best to adapt new lyrics to an already established operatic piece (let's NOT compose an entirely original opera here).
I'm going to admit that I am unfamiliar with The Six Trials of Lazarod, other than I know it's in the Council of Thieves AP. (I don't own it). Are there lyrics already written? If not, do we know enough about the opera that lyrics could be written/adapted to a real-world opera?
I think this idea is incredibly appealing...and it shows just how talented the fans are, if we can collectively pull off CREATING an opera song for the setting!
Discuss!

If you decide to do it in Italian, I'm your woman, either to write or to grammar-check it. It should be in aulic Opera Italian, after all.^^
Thanks for the offer; 'aulic' Italian, eh? Now you're getting technical. If it were completely up to me, they'd be lucky to get it in pig-Latin.
I just asked Snorter Daughter if she knew any Italian, and she gave me "It'sa meee, Mario!".

I think this would be appropriate.

Allow me to suggest:
Re dell'Abisso (from Verdi's Un ballo in maschera)
Lyrics
English translation
Or tutti sorgete ministri infernali (from Verdi's Macbeth)
Lyrics and translation

Do you have a format you'd like us to use for a gazeteer entry?
I've done a lot of work on Remesiana for my home campaign, and I was going to submit a city write-up. That would be a 750 word count entry, yes?
It could be a 750 or 1500 word submission, depending on what you have to say about the city, and how many places you describe. I'd check out Wayfinder 9, and look at "Dairntun" and also Wayfinder 8, and "Halfen" as two examples of how to do a proper gazetteer article.
No matter what format you choose, ALWAYS end the article with a settlement stat block (GMG 204).

Just wanted to let everyone know that we ARE getting your submissions, and I hope to begin filing and sending out a confirmation letter to let you know that fact as well.
We've got around 25 submissions now. Not bad!
Thanks!
Tim
How do you think the submission limit will affect the total number this time around?
Feel better soon!

I don't think it will have an impact....you may be surprised, but most people don't submit more than one or two articles. There are a good sized group of fans that can produce well beyond three, but we usually don't take more than three from one writer, so this just encourages everyone to send their three very best ideas.
I think 25 in the first month or so of the call is a record, actually. In the past, we'd be lucky to have 6 submissions at this point.
And thanks...feeling a bit better.

I'm really glad folks are so excited about the Cheliax issue. I've always thought Tim had a good eye for picking just the right theme, and it appears that he hit the bullseye with this one. I'm looking forward to reading all the submissions that come in and working with the authors whose submissions are selected.
Keep up the great work!
Cheers!

Submitted my piece. Finished the draft a month ago, but life and a month of revisions with my editorial and spousal partner in crime intervened. :)
Might have to consider dropping in a second piece of one sort or another.
Curse those beautiful dastards, eh? I know I try to run to everything past my lovely wife and regret it when I don't...

I'm blessed with being married to someone with damn good writing skills, and I've found that routinely going a few rounds of editing with TanithT greatly, greatly improves the quality of my writing. Lets just say that 700 words were trimmed, it read better, and 'nothing of value was lost' sort of improved. ;)
