Headband of vast intelligence and retraining skill points

I have found a headband of vast intelligence. The problem is I already have ranks in the same skill the headband grants.

I know I can retrain my skill points using Ultimate Campaign rules.

The question is. Can I retrain after start use the headband to take advantage of the intelligence bonus increment?

The int bonus increment from the headband doesn't give you any new skill points. However, you can retrain to take the points you'd previously put in that skill and put them in another skill.

One way or another, the skill points granted by the Headband are going to be in that particular skill.

You could retrain your "base" skill points into something else, though, to avoid doubling up.

The skill ranks that are linked to the headband are in addition to your normal ranks. So you don't have to retrain, but there are rules for retraining in Ultimate Campaign, pg 191.

SKILL RANKS
You can retrain skill ranks you have assigned to skills. Retraining skill ranks takes 5 days. When the training period ends, reassign a number of skill ranks up to your Intelligence bonus (minimum 1), removing them from your existing skill (or skills) and adding them to a different skill (or skills). If retraining skill ranks means you no longer qualify for a feat or other ability you have, you can’t use that feat or ability until you meet the qualifications again. (Or you can retrain that feat or other ability.)

To my knowledge you can only train your natural skill ranks to something else. The skill in the headband is forever set.

However, if you have skill ranks that overlaps with those of the headband, I see absolutely no reason why you couldn't retrain them to something more useful. This is exactly the kind of situation the retraining rules exist for.
