Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hello! I just started to play this amazing game, but I have a basic question to ask about die and bonus during checks, for example let's take ezren (after some scenarios :) )

Intelligence d12 +3
Arcane: intelligence +2

1) if i need to do a check with arcane, is it d12+3+2 or d12+2?
2) if i want to use frost ray that says for a combat check i could use arcane DIE + 2d6 , is it d12+2d6 or d12+2+2d6 or d12+3+2+2d6 ?

Thank you very much

You add the bonus for the base skill to the special skill. So his arcane is 1d12 + 3 +2 in your example. And a combat check is also a check, so it is all that plus 2d6 for frost ray.

But, note that when you add a die with a blessing, you just add the die and not all the bonuses again.

Said more "officially", you add the bonus from the skill feats in the base skill (intelligence) along with the bonus from bonus skill (arcane) when attempting any arcane check.

Thank you! What I made me thinking is the word "die" on the frost ray text, it says to use the arcane die so I tought it's just the die without any bonus (otherwise why specify the word die ? )

Take a look at the link below where my personal understanding of this process unfolded - hopefully it helps you too!
