With sincere thanks to Hobs, who posted these on the Pax Gaming forum some months ago! The following list is a fun way to develop your character, and introduce her to the PfO community.

Directions:

1. Answer the following as your character would answer. There is no "correct" answer - only the one that your character would genuinely give. The hope is that your answers will provide you, the player, with a better perspective on your character's actions and allow you to more naturally role-play your character. Saying why you are answering as you do would likewise be helpful.

2. Too often, RP surveys for determining alignment and the like are provided in multiple choice format. However, these choices are often too limiting and may not even include the action your character would naturally take. This is why these questions are open-ended, so that you can decide your character's natural reaction. You can answer as explicitly as you like, or even conditionally (e.g. I would do this, but if I found this out, then I would do that, etc.).

RP Questions:

1. You are out hunting for a much needed meal. You enter a small clearing and spy a deer. The deer is a female and this is the season for birthing fawns, but you cannot tell from this distance if she is a nursing mother or not. What would your character do?

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

3. You spy one of your settlement associates (someone you know well but less than a good friend) speaking in the shadows of his shop to another person. As you watch, the second person quickly makes for the settlement wall, climbs it, and disappears into the neighboring forest. You recognize the man as someone who has been banned from your settlement. This associate is of good standing in the settlement and has a wife and two children. What would your character do?

4. Your settlement leader has approached you in secret with concerns about another settlement member who he believes may be a spy. The person in question turns out to be a close friend of yours. The settlement leader asks you to keep an eye on him, report anything suspicious, and not to mention any of this conversation to your friend. What would your character do?

5. On a recent escalation raid, you recovered a small crystal sphere. Thinking it to be harmless but attractive, you take it home and leave it on the small table beside your bed. As you begin to drift off to sleep, you hear a voice in your head. "You and yours were not as thorough as you think," it says. "I endure and I will reward you handsomely if you return that crystal to me." When you open your eyes, you see a fading light emanating from the crystal. What would your character do?

6. You and a fellow settlement member were out patrolling. A party of Orcs ambushed the two of you. You managed to kill several and flee into the woods, but your companion is badly wounded. The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

9. You are on patrol and see a man being accosted by bandits. He is still alive, but it is clear he has been beaten into submission and is lying prone and helpless on the ground. The bandits are picking through his pack. You are certain you can handle the bandits, but as you look closer, you can tell that their victim is a member of a settlement that you are at war with currently. What would your character do?

10. It's time to begin training a new skill. Your settlement is short on < enter a skill you normally wouldn't think of training >, but you could also start the next tier of your favorite skill. What would your character do?

1. You are out hunting for a much needed meal. You enter a small clearing and spy a deer. The deer is a female and this is the season for birthing fawns, but you cannot tell from this distance if she is a nursing mother or not. What would your character do?

Sweetie, I never go anywhere without a few munchies in my bag, and I try not to be more than a day's travel from a place with walls and a real bed and actual meals, and I definitely don't wander around in the woods by myself - but I'll play. Maybe I got lost, and ate all my emergency goodies in a panic attack; I'd do that. So, a deer, a female deer... I'd back off. I'd not actually be hunting deer (male or female) at all, because deer are big, and they might win. Rabbit meat might be declasse, but I could probably manage to kill a rabbit. And even if it was a nursing mother, rabbits breed like, well, rabbits, don't they?

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

Well, I'd pick it up, obviously. If this is one of those obsessively law-and-order settlements, I'd turn it in to the local constabulary; it's not worth the risk of a "good neighbor" citizen noticing me pick it up and calling the law down on me; towns like that tend to view wanderers with a bit of suspicion. But for your average town... I'd be going on a nice little spending spree, making a sizable donation at the local charity, and hitting the road before anyone managed to put "stranger in town" and "I lost my purse!" together.

Well, obviously Wall-Climber shouldn't have been there, and if I'm a resident of this settlement I wouldn't be too thrilled with the idea that banished people can go wandering in and out of town willy-nilly (else, why have town laws in the first place?), so I'd report her (or him; whatever) to the guards. Although he/she/it would probably be long gone by the time I found the guards and explained about the Wall-Climber. At least I'd have done my civic duty.

Now, "know well but less than a good friend" covers a lot of relationship territory. Is Wife-and-Kids a colleague? Did he back one of Dad's plays? Did he teach me to play the mandolin? Is he the only tailor in town who can make me look tall and slender in a specially-designed dress? Maybe he's a former lover. Because what to do about him is all tied up with what our relationship actually is. Keeping it simple, though, if I've never known him to be less than a solid citizen, I'd assume there was a rational explanation - off the top of my head: Wall-Climber is a relative; Wife-and-Kids owed Wall-Climber money and Wall-Climber came back to get it; Wall-Climber actually wasn't banished but is spying on an enemy town and is reporting back to Wife-and-Kids because reporting to the leadership would tip off any enemy spies we have.

Growing up with actors for parents isn't really a good thing.

Still, with the guards on the alert for Wall-Climber, I'd probably let this one slide for Wife-and-Kids.

4. Your settlement leader has approached you in secret with concerns about another settlement member who he believes may be a spy. The person in question turns out to be a close friend of yours. The settlement leader asks you to keep an eye on him, report anything suspicious, and not to mention any of this conversation to your friend. What would your character do?

So, my settlement leader - asuuming that I have a settlement, that it has a leader, and that I don't think that leader is a blithering idiot, although that last one is a bit of a stretch because if she knew me at all she wouldn't be asking me this - is asking me to spy on a friend. To SPY. On a FRIEND.

Harpy.

Assuming I really like my settlement - which, why? It has a power-hungry idiot for a leader - I'd gently explain that asking one freind to spy on another is a really bad idea.

Then I'd go have a few drinks with my friend. Just to catch up.

Since I don't usually hear voices in my head - well, I do, but they're mine and I know what they sound like - that pretty piece of crystal would be going to the local experts just as soon as I can find where I left my clothes last night. Not my area of expertise, and frankly, if something is talking through that crystal, I would like it to be as far away from me as possible, thank you very much.

6. You and a fellow settlement member were out patrolling. A party of Orcs ambushed the two of you. You managed to kill several and flee into the woods, but your companion is badly wounded. The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

Fellow settlement member, singular? Which poor sap did you convince should risk her neck wandering around in the woods with only me for backup? Are you insane?!

Look, unless the orcs can be distracted with pretty spells and non-stop chatter, my poor partner's going to be doing all the heavy lifting. Which is probably why she's seriously wounded, and I'm not. For future reference, this is a really bad idea.

If I'm lucky, I'll have found a familiar by this time and I can send it for help. Knowing my luck, though, I'll still be familiar-less (un-familiared?), or I'll have a tortoise. Or a penguin. Or something equally unsuited to getting help within a reasonable timeframe.

Maybe they'll write a song about us. A really depressing song.

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

I'm assuming by "single-handdedly" you actually mean "you and several stalwart, well-armed companions", because see above. I'm not the clingy type, but I'm also just a sorceress with focus issues, flashy clothes, and a background in the theatre, and "clearing monsters out of an area" isn't exactly my forte. I realize that was just the set-up for the whole other-harvesting-camp question, but it bears remembering.

I really like to think that when it comes to dealing with people, there's a lot to be said for a conversation over a nice hot pot of tea. (Alcohol is NOT a good idea in a case like this, as you never know who will turn out to be a mean drunk.) This is a time to speak sweetly and have an armed escort, while explaining that we've done the work of clearing out the monsters, they've done the work of setting up the camp, and it would be a lot less strenuous all around to split the goods. Sure, we could fight and one of us could win everything, but either way we'd still have injuries and death, and more monsters might show up. Or bandits.

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

Buy the half-price item. I'm all about the bargains - as either a wanderer or an entertainer, you never know when your next payday's going to come.

Again, I'm assuming "you" is plural, because no settlement in its right mind is going to send me out alone.

Anyway. Bandits. Nasty creatures. I've been robbed, and it's not pleasant. So, dispatch the bandits, then take Mr. Shouldn't-Be-Anywhere-Near-Our-Settlement back to town for... debriefing.

10. It's time to begin training a new skill. Your settlement is short on < enter a skill you normally wouldn't think of training >, but you could also start the next tier of your favorite skill. What would your character do?

Well, any settlement that wants to keep me as a member had better already know I'm a fairly self-centered creature; it's the artistic temperament, after all.

Great thread, Deianira (and Hobs).

Short and sweet answers for one of my characters.

1/ Stalk the deer and determine if it has young at foot. If so, back off and let them grow older, and if not...lunch!

2/ Lunch!

3/ Track the individual through the woods and render them unconscious. Drag them back to town and hoist them inside a wicker man and then wake them. Force the settlement associate to light the wicker man, while his family are present, and hold a steady unwavering gaze at him as the screams of the dying man echo across the village.

4/ Spy? Real men kill stuff...they don't spy. That said, I might keep an eye on the friend and if anything suspicious is uncovered, I might beat the living daylights out of them. If on the off chance the suspicious activities persist...well, beatings may continue until morale improves and suspicious activities stop.

5/ Sell it to someone who likes shiny, glowing orb thingies and go buy some lunch!

6/ Ask him one question, "Will you fight?"

7/ Smash their camp to bits and steal their lunch.

8/ Buy the item from the settlement member...but he better buy me a beer and some lunch damn soon.

9/ Defeat them all and take their lunch.

10/ Depends on the skill...it combat oriented and would prove useful to the settlement, train that up. If not combat oriented...well, I have walls to guard and a delicious deer to catch for lunch.

1) Stalk the deer and determine if it has young at foot. If not, kill the deer and eat her. If so, cast fireball and eat them all.

2) Take them? Duh...

3) I'd hire someone to let him know that someone else (me) knows what went down, and make him deliver money to a designated location at a certain time, or, his secret will be told to the proper authorities. Set it all up so I get the money anonymously and don't make any enemies in the process. If he fails to deliver the money, hire someone to inform the proper authorities of what happened.

4) Agree to help out the Settlement leader, and tell my friend what's going on. Other than that it would depend on the specific circumstances.

5) Identify it of course, and then see if I should return it (based on how far I have to take it, and what the reward is) or keep it.

6) I'd use Greater Teleport to get us to safety (I'm a level 20 Sorcerer, so suck on that).

7) Tell them the situation, and ask them politely to leave, if they do, great, if not, kill them all.

8) NOT get ripped off?

9) Kill all the bandits. That guy needs help, and it's not fair that the bandits assaulted him like that. Then I'd take him back to my settlement for safety/healing. Then I'd hand him over to the authorities to be tortured for information which might prove of value to my settlement.

1. You are out hunting for a much needed meal. You enter a small clearing and spy a deer. The deer is a female and this is the season for birthing fawns, but you cannot tell from this distance if she is a nursing mother or not. What would your character do?

Kill the deer. The wolf in the wild does not consider if the doe is a nursing mother, why should the hunter?

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

Take it

I would no longer trust the member with any information that could harm me. I would also wait out the situation and see if it could some how be turned to my advantage. I would use his wife and children in some way as leverage if needed.

If I were on very good terms with our settlement leader, I would tip him off to what I saw. I would angle my activities to gain favor and power within the settlement.

If I were on better terms with the "spy" than the settlement leader, I might work with him to topple the leader.

4. Your settlement leader has approached you in secret with concerns about another settlement member who he believes may be a spy. The person in question turns out to be a close friend of yours. The settlement leader asks you to keep an eye on him, report anything suspicious, and not to mention any of this conversation to your friend. What would your character do?

I answer this above as well

Thinking it is a trap, I would sell the crystal to someone telling them it is a magic treasure map but I have no interest in returning to the place were it was found. I would wait to see if they go to the place, and await their exit.

If they don't come out, I know it was a trap. If they do come out, I would rob them.

6. You and a fellow settlement member were out patrolling. A party of Orcs ambushed the two of you. You managed to kill several and flee into the woods, but your companion is badly wounded. The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

Fight to the death

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

Let their camp do the work for a while, and then raid it

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

If I need something, I will look for a means to steal it. If not I would look to make a trade with my fellow citizen using barter system

I would congratulate the bandits, try to recruit them if they are unaffiliated. If they reject the offer I would SAD them or kill them and take their stuff. Then offer them the chance to join UNC again.

As for the original victim, he is a war target, I would kill him (Gank)

10. It's time to begin training a new skill. Your settlement is short on < enter a skill you normally wouldn't think of training >, but you could also start the next tier of your favorite skill. What would your character do?

I would train the skill my settlement needed, with the understanding that I only intend to perform the tasks of that skill until they find a suitable replacement.

I would expect suitable compensation for my xp expenditure and social acknowledgment that I "took one for the team". A simple thank you would suffice.

1. You are out hunting for a much needed meal. You enter a small clearing and spy a deer. The deer is a female and this is the season for birthing fawns, but you cannot tell from this distance if she is a nursing mother or not. What would your character do?

Gorim would likely attempt to bring the doe down. A hungry dwarf is a cranky dwarf.

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

Take it back to my enormous treasure vault for safe keeping. If a legitimate claim ever arose I'd return it asking a favor in compensation.

Bring the acquaintance before the settlement authorities to answer for his actions.

4. Your settlement leader has approached you in secret with concerns about another settlement member who he believes may be a spy. The person in question turns out to be a close friend of yours. The settlement leader asks you to keep an eye on him, report anything suspicious, and not to mention any of this conversation to your friend. What would your character do?

Respectfully decline. However I would keep a closer eye on my friend for my own sake.

Gather a warband and set out for the rest of the treasure.

6. You and a fellow settlement member were out patrolling. A party of Orcs ambushed the two of you. You managed to kill several and flee into the woods, but your companion is badly wounded. The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

Dwarves actually have a standard procedure for this sort of thing. Climb the nearest tree and await air support.

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

Inform the claim jumper of their transgression. If amends are not made they will be forcibly removed.

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

Contact the settlement member and discuss a better deal.

Gorim would slay the bandits and take the victim as a prisoner of war.

10. It's time to begin training a new skill. Your settlement is short on < enter a skill you normally wouldn't think of training >, but you could also start the next tier of your favorite skill. What would your character do?[/b]

Train for the betterment of the whole. As the community becomes stronger I become stronger.

1. The wilds are unforgiving. If I'm starving, I need to feed myself.

2. Everyone and their mother will claim that this purse is 'theirs'. If it has anything clearly recognizable, I would seek out the owner (provided they are a good person I respect). If not, I'd use it to fund my guild members. Seeing as we hunt bandits and other 'bad' folk, it wouldn't' be a waste.

3. Take my two most competent guild members and confront him behind closed doors.

4. Keep an eye on my close friend, and the settlement leader. The request smells fishy.

5. Hold a meeting with my guild members to discuss our options. I don't like keeping an item that can be used to spy on me.

6. Praise Calistria for granting me her divine powers, and heal him/her enough for us to escape. If that isn't possible, well my guild members knew the risks when they signed up to patrol. Attempt to escape with my own life.

7. Confront them to find out their intentions (was this on purpose?). If it can't be resolved this way, come back later with a group to ambush them for their theft.

8. The money should be going into the settlement. Who knows where the guest's money is going? That being said, point out to the settlement member the guest's prices and try to barter.

9. Kill the bandits. I don't tolerate them on a good day. Determine if the enemy settlement member can be of use to my settlement. Consider taking pity on the man/woman depending on their status (why slaughter a simple merchant?).

10. My character trains for her guild. She has her purpose and her responsibilities, and a 'dip' into a skill that is not in her field would not make sense.

1. You are out hunting for a much needed meal. You enter a small clearing and spy a deer. The deer is a female and this is the season for birthing fawns, but you cannot tell from this distance if she is a nursing mother or not. What would your character do?

This depends on the situation. I have spent a lot of time in the wilds, and often your chances at obtaining food come only sparsely. I would have to make a judgment call. How scarce is food in the region. What is the deer population in the region. Am I likely to run across other sources of food. In the end, if I'm hungry then it's likely food is sparse so I would follow the deer for a time quietly. If there was no sign of a baby then I would be finding myself eating a fine meal.

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

I don't like towns so much, at least not those that aren't filled with good honorable folk. I would look for any distinct markings on the purse. Perhaps I recognize the purse. If the town constable was an honorable man, then I would turn the purse in. Within a period of time if no one comes looking for it I would come and collect it and put the coins to good use.

Someone with a wife and child should not be putting them at risk with such behavior. However, perhaps there is a good reason for why they are conversing. I would approach the person and ask them why they were associating with such a person. It might depend upon the nature of the other individual's banishment. In the end I would hope they would come clean as to the reasoning. Let us hope he doesn't become violent, for his sake. Any community I would associate with would help out the wife and child regardless of the outcome; and I'd make sure they were seen to.

4. Your settlement leader has approached you in secret with concerns about another settlement member who he believes may be a spy. The person in question turns out to be a close friend of yours. The settlement leader asks you to keep an eye on him, report anything suspicious, and not to mention any of this conversation to your friend. What would your character do?

A close friend of mine that is under suspicion would be a large concern. I would keep to myself for a time and watch my friend. However, depending on what I find I may or may not divulge the information. True and loyal friends are hard to come by. Those that can watch your back in battle or times of duress are rare. If they are a traitor or a danger to others then perhaps I was wrong in naming them friend and I would relay the information.

I would take the crystal to someone that is well versed in the arcane that I trust. I would relay the information I saw in my dream and come up with a plan of action depending on the result.

6. You and a fellow settlement member were out patrolling. A party of Orcs ambushed the two of you. You managed to kill several and flee into the woods, but your companion is badly wounded. The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

I'll never leave a comrade in arms behind. Depending on my condition I would carry the friend to safety or find an adequate hiding place. They are, after all, only orcs and poor trackers in general. I could be surprised, in which case I would fight to defend the both of us.

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

I would calmly explain to this other person what has happened. Hopefully they are honorable enough to recognize my legitimate claim based upon my hard work. If this is not the case I am well prepared to defend what I have fought for.

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

I would purchase the item with the fairer price. I would perhaps investigate the cheaper merchant to see if everything was as it seems. I might also approach the settlement's merchant and explain that his price is twice what I could get the item for. Perhaps he would match the other price and benefit the settlement. Resources should be conserved, however. It's best to always be prepared.

Bandits are a bane. The next victim could well be a friend or fellow settlement member. I would take out the bandits and then take the merchant captive. I would bring him and his goods back to the settlement if I am able and figure out what the settlement wished to do with him.

10. It's time to begin training a new skill. Your settlement is short on < enter a skill you normally wouldn't think of training >, but you could also start the next tier of your favorite skill. What would your character do?

I would carefully weigh the options. Which skill truly makes me the most effective. While the other skill may very well be needed by the settlement perhaps it does not play to my strengths. In the end, while I would wish to aid the settlement, that skill may well not mesh well with my own strengths. That would drive my decision. I would seek the advice of others and see what they would think as well. A group made decision for the betterment of all is the wisest course.

RP Questions:

1. You are out hunting for a much needed meal. You enter a small clearing and spy a deer. The deer is a female and this is the season for birthing fawns, but you cannot tell from this distance if she is a nursing mother or not. What would your character do?

Well, in character... There are plenty of Deer to choose from. There is a vast wilderness and vast supply of game.

Out of character... Anyone in the fantasy setting who are not druid or LG would not care about the moralities of modern man. Killing a pregnant or even nursing doe is not a concern for the hungry.

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

Into my backpack it goes.

Approach him, ask what he was doing, and demand information. After which I would either use that information for my benefit or tell him to pay me off... After all he has a family and would not want to take it up with the Lords of the settlement.

4. Your settlement leader has approached you in secret with concerns about another settlement member who he believes may be a spy. The person in question turns out to be a close friend of yours. The settlement leader asks you to keep an eye on him, report anything suspicious, and not to mention any of this conversation to your friend. What would your character do?

A close friend you say? (depending on how close) I would keep an eye on him for anything suspicious, then ask to be a part of his operation.

If a real close friend, I would talk to him about it immediately to see what is going on. With the same end result.

I would talk to the voices in my head to get any information I could. Then I would do some research on the crystal for more information. At that point depending on the information, I would either return the crystal for the reward, or I would fake returning the crystal and interrogate the person wanting it... Kill them, and take it all.

6. You and a fellow settlement member were out patrolling. A party of Orcs ambushed the two of you. You managed to kill several and flee into the woods, but your companion is badly wounded. The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

Hide my friend and lead the Orcs on a wild chase, lose them after a distance and return for my friend.

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

Depends on who it was. More then likely take it back.

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

Buy the cheaper item. Then tell the settlement member to try and be competitive.

Well, at first I would be mad I did not get to the victim first. Then I would SAD the bandits, followed by finishing off the victim. Then I would try to recruit the bandits.

10. It's time to begin training a new skill. Your settlement is short on < enter a skill you normally wouldn't think of training >, but you could also start the next tier of your favorite skill. What would your character do?

Depends on what skill it is the settlement needs, but more then likely choose the skill I would like to train next and do so.

1. You are out hunting for a much needed meal. You enter a small clearing and spy a deer. The deer is a female and this is the season for birthing fawns, but you cannot tell from this distance if she is a nursing mother or not. What would your character do?

Kill the deer, while all life is precious, the loss of my own life affects the lives of many. I must honor the goddess with my devoted actions and if I shall die on my travels unable to fulfill the will of the Sun then I have let down many more than the family of deer.

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

Donate it to the local orphanage. There is no such thing as luck, there is only the will of the universe.

3. You spy one of your settlement associates (someone you know well but less than a good friend) speaking in the shadows of his shop to another person. As you watch, the second person quickly makes for the settlement wall, climbs it, and disappears into the neighboring forest. Speak to them, to judge with out cause is nothing more than a foolish act.

4. Your settlement leader has approached you in secret with concerns about another settlement member who he believes may be a spy. The person in question turns out to be a close friend of yours. The settlement leader asks you to keep an eye on him, report anything suspicious, and not to mention any of this conversation to your friend. What would your character do?

Ask my friend if he is a spy, if he has no reason to lie he will not.

The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

Heal my friend and fight off the Orcs before he expires. I shall be strengthened by the Sun goddess herself. Her blessed light will keep me standing, and will allow me to help him.

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

Move on to another harvesting area, the exercise has done me well. There is no such thing as a lost opportunity, there is only such things as alternate advantages.

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

Buy from the settlement member

Destroy the bandits, no honor for the honorless

I do what I must for the greater good

Gricki fires the arrow. If she finds the fawn, she adopts it, tries to take care of it, and trains it. If it dies, she is a bit upset.

Grickin will the purse. It's his lucky day.

She confronts the man and, assuming she is able to defeat him, reveals his treachery to all.

The settlement exists to support Grickin. If it doesn't support him, to hell with it.

However, the friend is betraying Grickin, too. This matter requires further thought and context.

Smash the crystal and tell nobody. Gricki will not be manipulated, even to her own benefit.

For those who are Marked by Pharasma, death is naught but another lesson, and Grickin cares little for his own well-being. If he stands to lose profit by dying, he will leave his friend. Otherwise, he will try to help him out as a matter of courtesy.

Buy from the guest. Grickin has no patience for a settlement that doesn't make things easier for him. If Grickin's rep is lower, though, he will buy from the fellow citizen—gotta keep the patron happy.

If Gricki can handle the bandits, but the man is defeated, the course is simple: Kill everyone. Money is money.

Why would I be looking for food in the woods where it's been SITTING OUTSIDE ALL DAY!? I take my wagon to the closest tavern, buy it (the tavern) and have my new friends Avella, Razilow, Polemia, Marstion, and Kevin prepare me venison steak.

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

Shinies!!!

Sounds like a great song that will make the River Kingdoms Top 10. Listeners can take it from there.

Tie it to a stick, "FLAMELESS TORCHES!! It's a miracle of magic folks, never light it, never sets your town on fire! The last torch you'll ever have to buy! Limited Edition, act now while they're still in stock! 200 coin, flameless torches!!!"

What? Oh, umm... play a song about that place with much richer deposits until that rude guy decides to go harvest there instead. If he still wants to come back later there's always a Nausea spell.

1. You are out hunting for a much needed meal. You enter a small clearing and spy a deer. The deer is a female and this is the season for birthing fawns, but you cannot tell from this distance if she is a nursing mother or not. What would your character do?

Well really, that’s why one always strives to have a companionable Ranger about, but since I seem to be without at the moment, Erastil provides, and sometimes what Erastil provides is a succulent deer. In the spirit of the question, presuming that I felt it was me or the deer, I would do my best to live. If I felt I need it enough, and game and other food was sufficiently scarce that I was worried about losing strength before the next opportunity then the possibility of lost young deer would have to fall to my need.

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

I would likely approach my good brother the mage and see if he had any spells up his sleeve to ascertain info about the owner, or if perhaps my brother the ranger might feel up to tracking. Failing that, I would likely hold onto it for a few weeks, in case Erastil revealed anything to me about the owner, then eventually give it to the temple to serve the poor in His name

Make sure that my brothers and sisters knew where I’d be, and why, then go to counsel him in Erastil’s name. Things are rarely as they seem on the surface, and just because a person has been banned from our settlement doesn’t mean that he doesn’t regret what got him banned. He may be working to assist us and there is no excuse for making important decisions on insufficient information. If I became convinced that his purposes were at odds with the community, I would ask him to yield himself to the authorities. Such encounters are often the beginning of important and lasting friendships, if only people communicate before they go off.

4. Your settlement leader has approached you in secret with concerns about another settlement member who he believes may be a spy. The person in question turns out to be a close friend of yours. The settlement leader asks you to keep an eye on him, report anything suspicious, and not to mention any of this conversation to your friend. What would your character do?

I would inform the settlement leader of my relationship, and ask him if it’s possible to find a better candidate. That said, I am not so perfect as to think I couldn’t be duped by a spy. If I have no choice, I would do as is required of me, but would be uncomfortable so would be very careful not to make any rash judgements about anything I thought I saw or heard.

Isolate the crystal and immediately consult with my family, several of whom are quite skilled with arcane powers.

6. You and a fellow settlement member were out patrolling. A party of Orcs ambushed the two of you. You managed to kill several and flee into the woods, but your companion is badly wounded. The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

This is dependent on so many factors that it’s hard to decide, but it’s difficult to imagine a party of orcs large enough to overcome me with Erastil’s assistance. I hope that in my fellow citizen’s hour of need my faith would prove strong enough to protect both of us, or that Erastil would make a good home for us at His side.

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

Who exactly are they? Why are they doing so? What assistance do I have? Are they prepared to yield to my claim? Are they tainted by the dark powers or chaos? What is their intention for the harvest? There would need to be a discussion, and an analysis of the wisdom in pursuing my claim.

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

Ask the settlement member if there is a good reason for the price difference. If there is, and I could afford the difference, I would pay it willingly. In much the same way that he-who-operates-my-strings often chooses to purchase things that are more expensive if there is value and reason and it supports his own community.

I would set upon the brigands immediately and roust them. War is a decision not entered into lightly, and the smallest of acts can have the most amazing results in the future. I might set in motion a thread that would result in the end of the war. Regardless of whether there was war, or I knew the victim to be my worst enemy, banditry is sinful, and I can deal with my enemies properly.

10. It's time to begin training a new skill. Your settlement is short on < enter a skill you normally wouldn't think of training >, but you could also start the next tier of your favorite skill. What would your character do?

I would need to assess the degree of shortness, and whether there are others who could satisfy that need. Barring a clear path, Erastil will not fail to reward me for working to help my community.

1. You are out hunting for a much needed meal. You enter a small clearing and spy a deer. The deer is a female and this is the season for birthing fawns, but you cannot tell from this distance if she is a nursing mother or not. What would your character do?

I'd let her go, of course. Firstly, I'm not a terribly good shot, and secondly, we can prosper more if the herd grows.

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

Take it to my office, and keep it until someone asks around for it. If after a long period of time no one asks for it, I'll donate it to Brighthaven's coffers.

I'd have a friend watch my back, and then ask the citizen what he was up to. If he can give a good reason, I'd tell him to be careful. If he can't, I'd pass it along to my superiors, as well as let the League know that we have a fugitive near the town.

4. Your settlement leader has approached you in secret with concerns about another settlement member who he believes may be a spy. The person in question turns out to be a close friend of yours. The settlement leader asks you to keep an eye on him, report anything suspicious, and not to mention any of this conversation to your friend. What would your character do?

I have absolute trust in Lifedragn, and as such I'd do exactly asked. I can hopefully clear my friend's name, and if I can't, maybe I can convince them to go double agent. If not, well, then I've been fooled and shame on me.

Reach over, grab a hammer, and break the damn thing. If its magical and talking to me and trying to convince me to do something wrong, I'm a gonna break it. Not risking the lives of my fellows over some bauble.

6. You and a fellow settlement member were out patrolling. A party of Orcs ambushed the two of you. You managed to kill several and flee into the woods, but your companion is badly wounded. The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

Wonder why he's on patrol anyways as he drags his friend home as quickly as possible, praying to Abadar that the rest of the League shows up.

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

Help them set up and watch for monsters. We're all members of Brighthaven here, it all helps, so why be worried about who gets the credit?

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

If the settlement member has a pressing need for gold, I'll buy his and consider it a write off to help the local economy. If they're price gouging, then I'll make a new friend and buy from the guest. Perhaps I can convince them to become a resident and enrich us all.

Wonder how a band of bandits could possibly be so incompent as to fall to an aristocrat, and then charge in and drive them off. I'd patch the gentleman up, and then either send him on his way with a note explaining our generosity, hoping for political leverage, or bring him to Brighthaven to be treated as a prisoner of war. It depends on if they are a combatant or not.

10. It's time to begin training a new skill. Your settlement is short on < enter a skill you normally wouldn't think of training >, but you could also start the next tier of your favorite skill. What would your character do?

I'd focus on what the settlement needs, of course. Brighthaven is my dream, is why I'm here. I set aside a profitable adventuring career to help found and grow Brighthaven, there's no need to be selfish with my time.

I call out, "hey deer!"

If it doesn't run, then I run up and stab it many times and cut off it's head then continue my hunt for food. Obviously it wasn't a real deer, it was a monster pretending to be a deer.

If it does run then I try to trip it up with a bola or a spell or just whack it in the head with a rock so I can capture it. Once I've captured it I bring it back home and train it to be my new mount.

2. You are in a busy town intersection and stumble across a coin purse. Upon inspection, it has not only coins, but cut gems inside. What would your character do?

I cast Detect Magic on the gems to see if any of them are enchanted. Then, regardless of the result I pocket the coin purse with both the coins and gems inside and use them to help me cheat win at gambling.

I stab him many, many times. Then I stab him again and cut off his head. Freevale has no leader, he was obviously a monster pretending to be our leader.

"I endure and I will reward you handsomely if you return that crystal to me." When you open your eyes, you see a fading light emanating from the crystal. What would your character do?

I say, "oh yeah? Where are you?"

Then when it answers I send a call out to the rest of the Clan and we go hunting for it. When we find it we kill it, cut off its head and take its stuff. Then I shove the crystal in one of its eye sockets and mount it on the settlement wall.

6. You and a fellow settlement member were out patrolling. A party of Orcs ambushed the two of you. You managed to kill several and flee into the woods, but your companion is badly wounded. The settlement is a decent distance away, your friend is at least your size, and the Orcs are closing in. What would your character do?

I set my companion up against a tree with a ranged weapon to shoot at the orcs as they close in and a melee weapon to switch to when they catch up. Then I go sneak out into the trees and while my companion acts as bait I pick off the orcs until they are all dead and I cut off their heads. If my companion survives I then help them back to the settlement. If not I still take my companion back for a proper burial but I take all their stuff because they won't need it anymore.

7. You have spent twenty minutes single handedly clearing the monsters out of an area with the intention of setting up a harvesting camp. After killing the last monster, you return to the spot where the harvesting camp can be erected, only to find someone else has planted their harvesting camp in the same spot. What would your character do?

I wouldn't be alone, how stupid is that? I stab the question and cut off its head. It's obviously a monster pretending to be a question.

------------------

8. You are searching the settlement market for a new item that you need. You see the item for sale by several merchants. One is a member of your settlement and one is a guest with permission to use the settlement market. The settlement member's price is double that of the guest. What would your character do?

I find the settlement merchant and tell them that the other merchant is undercutting them. Then I ask for the weapon in exchange for a quest instead of coin. Quests are more enjoyable and I lost all my coin and new gems while gambling.

------------------

Charge in, stab them all and cut off their heads. All of them. Then I would find the one with the fanciest boots and put them on and dance on my merry way.

------------------

10. It's time to begin training a new skill. Your settlement is short on < enter a skill you normally wouldn't think of training >, but you could also start the next tier of your favorite skill. What would your character do?

I start on the next tier of my favorite skill. In Freevale you aren't beholden to the settlement.

1) I do not need a whole deer, especially in my current state, so why bother? A rabbit will suffice.

2) I would take them and pocket them without breaking stride or looking around. If someone stopped me I would judge their honesty and, if found wanting, ignore them. If they are earnest I would return the bag to them/whoever they specify.

3) Weigh my options and proceed in what manner suits me.

4) As always, I am watchful and I hold my friends dear.

5) What need have I for riches and magic?

6) Kill the orcs.

7) Inquire as to their intents and purposes, family, sponsors, path of travel, desired profit, companions, and anything else I deem good conversation.

8) I always follow what my conscience says.

9) Do what is needed.

10) I always train to be what I need.
