One-shot spell casting

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Am I doing this right?

The cleric doesn't have the arcane ability, which the vast majority of the spells require. So, if you try to use a spell, you roll a 1D4?

So, theoretically you could use a blessing to roll 2D4, maybe make the check, then banish the card because you don't have arcane ability.

Is that right?

Yes you are.
But there are enough good divine spell that this shouldn´t really be a problem.

Liberty's Edge

First, as was stated by Fenris, there are more than enough good Divine spells for the Divine casting PCs. Also, why are you rolling the 1d4? I need a little more information on what spell you are using.

I think gwatson meant an arcane attack spell. So instead of rolling his arcane die + spell dices, he would roll 1d4 + spell dices.
Atleast thats how i understood it and answered accordingly.

I meant for spells that don't have divine. For example, if you're playing the cleric some spells don't have any skills that match you. So wouldn't you roll the 1D4? It states in the rules that you roll a 1D4 if you don't have a matching skill.

You roll the 1d4 (when roll needed at all), except for recharge. I think this only matter for attack spells anyway.

For example if you play an Arcane Armor you won't roll any dice at all.

Yes, if a spell requires you to make an Arcane check for its effect and you don't have the Arcane skill, you roll a d4 as your skill die instead of any stat and then it is banished with no chance of recharge. Even a fighter can do this if he wanted to.
