Bursts centered on a caster

Rules Questions

When casting a burst/spread spell, a caster normally centers at an intersection. But when casting a burst centered on the caster, or area emanation centered on caster, how does that play out? Say, a 5-foot emanation centered on caster? If he has to pick a corner of an intersection, that's a little awkward. Or does it just go into all adjacent squares from him?

By RAW you always have to choose an intersection for the point of origin of a spell.
See this picture (example= Paladin with 10ft fear aura)

Yeah. That's what I don't get. If I'm casting a 5ft radius spell on an intersection, and I'm in one of those squares, the spells going to hit me as well. Or else- even though there's no facing- I have to keep track of which creatures are hit by the spell when they move in and out (if the spell has a duration). What a headache. I think we just house-rule that one to go into all adjacent squares from a medium caster.

As for myself, I prefer to center it on the caster's square. Makes more sense.

It does make more sense, and makes it easier to place, when you use squares rather than intersections.
